EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior forward Roshane Ellison was named the Daktronics Division II Men's Soccer Atlantic Region Player of the Year to lead a region-best five East Stroudsburg University players on this year's squad, it was announced Tuesday.
Ellison (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica/Munro College) has scored 17 goals and added five assists for the Warriors, who were selected to play in the NCAA playoffs for the third straight year and the 16th time overall under head coach Jerry Sheska on Monday.
ESU travels to Millersville to take on Slippery Rock in the first round on Friday at 12 p.m., with the winner matching up against Millersville or California on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Ellison has scored 28 of his 36 career goals over the last two years and is one of four ESU players on the first team. He is joined by junior goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa, junior back Danny Drago and senior midfielder Jason Shegda on the first team, and junior midfielder Toric Robinson was named to the second team.
All four first team players were all-region selections last year, led by Drago (Stroudsburg/Notre Dame), who was a second team All-American and just the second ESU player under Sheska to earn All-America honors as a sophomore. Drago has started all 66 games in his first three years at ESU, recording nine goals and four assists, while leading one of the top defenses in the region.
Pokrywa (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) is allowing less than a goal per game (0.95) this season with seven shutouts and ranks among the top goalkeepers in school history. His career goals against average of 0.73 currently stands as the school record, and he has 20 career shutouts, fifth all-time prior to the end of his junior year.
Shegda (Langhorne/Neshaminy) was first team all-region at forward last year and has moved to midfield for his senior season. He has seven goals and seven assists, including both goals in ESU's 3-2 (OT) loss to Millersville in the PSAC semifinals last week, and has 21 goals and 16 assists as one of the team's top playmakers during his career.
Robinson (Westmoreland, Jamaica/Munro College) runs the center of the midfield for the Warriors and has 24 career assists, already in the top 10 in ESU's record book. He has three goals and eight assists this season and helped on both of Shegda's goals at Millersville. He has been on the All-PSAC team his first two years and is expected to be mentioned again when this year's team is released on Wednesday.
