EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University senior Lisa Lower was named the inaugural PSAC Champion Scholar for women's cross country at the PSAC Championships on Saturday at Lock Haven.

Lower, a Speech Pathology major from Palmerton, has a 4.0 grade-point average and has completed 94 credit hours through six semesters. She was one of 10 runners to compete in Saturday's championship for the Warriors, who placed seventh of 16 schools.

California senior Tim Lahmers, an Earth Science major with a 4.0 GPA, was the recipient of the men's award.

The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 88 award and honors the student-athlete with the top grade point average who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 team championship finals.

The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 88 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship finals sites of the 88 NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III. Lahmers and Lower are the inaugural recipients of the awards for cross country. The overall inaugural Champion Scholar Awards were given out last weekend at the men's and women's golf championships.
