redzonemedia.com. Chuck Seese, the 2009 PSAC Heaslip Media Award recipient, is in his 23rd season as the voice of the Warriors, with Bob Brittain in his 11th year providing the color commentary. Pre-game begins at 5:30 p.m.
THE MATCH-UP: East Stroudsburg University plays on the road for the 200th time under head coach
Denny Douds as the Warriors travel to West Chester for their PSAC East opener. Both teams enter with 1-2 records and are coming off strong performances last week. ESU was three minutes and one play away from an upset of No. 21 California but fell 22-19, and West Chester knocked off undefeated Slippery Rock, 20-13.
ROAD WARRIORS: For decades, the Warriors have been well-schooled - road trips begin and end behind Koehler Fieldhouse. ESU teams are 108-88-3 (.550) in road games under Douds, and 65-41-1 (.612) in road conference games. Douds is 6-12 at West Chester's Farrell Stadium but won in his last trip there, a 21-20 victory in 2009 when the Warriors overcame a 20-7 second-half deficit behind QB
Matt Marshall and an impressive career debut from then-Fr. TB
Kendrick Williams, who ran for 50 yards on the go-ahead drive.
GET IT STARTED: ESU is 22-15 in conference openers under Douds, 9-9 on the road, and 5-5 against West Chester. The Warriors have dropped their last two PSAC East lid-lifters - 35-31 vs. West Chester in 2010 and 38-14 at Shippensburg in 2009. Before that, they were 7-2 in PSAC East openers from 2000-08.
RECORD APPROACHING: Denny Douds (Slippery Rock '63), who holds the PSAC record for career wins with a 230-156-3 record in his 38th season as head football coach at ESU, is approaching the Division II record for most games coached. Douds will coach his 394th game on Oct. 22 vs. Millersville and become the Division's all-time leader. His current number, 389, is 86 more than the second-most in PSAC history. Including 68 games as an assistant coach under Charlie Reese (1966-73), he has coached in 457 of the 757 games - 60.4 percent - in program history. Douds is second among active Division II coaches and seventh among all active coaches in career victories. He has led the Warriors to nine PSAC titles and four NCAA Playoff appearances. For more on Coach Douds, please see page 12 of the game notes.
Bill Zwaan (Delaware '79) has a 66-35 record in his ninth season as head coach at West Chester. He guided Widener to a six-year record of 54-14 from 1997-02 and has a career mark of 120-49. Zwaan has led the Golden Rams to five NCAA Playoff appearances and three PSAC East championships in his first eight seasons at WCU.

Ray Wagner, last week's Division II leader in passing yards, is 7th in this week's rankings with 320.3 yards per game and 12th in total offense with 327.7 yards per game.
Wagner has two top single-game performances in DII with a 321.5 pass efficiency and 16.8 yards per play in the season opener vs. Pace. His 375 yards, all in the first half, are tied for 14th. His 97-yard TD pass to R-So. WR
Robert Bleiler vs. Pace is the longest play in DII this season.
Wagner was 13-for-20 vs. Pace and set school records for passing yards (375) and TDs (6) in a half and single-game pass efficiency. The 321.5 rating is the 3rd-highest in Division II since 2008.
He was 26-for-51 for 323 yards at IUP and joined
Matt Marshall as the only ESU QB's to throw for 300 yards in their first two career starts. He was 24-for-44 for 263 yards last week vs. California. Wagner's 961 passing yards in his first three career starts are a school record, and are third for an ESU QB in the first three weeks of a season:
1,188, 2005, Jimmy Terwilliger - 325, 317, 546
1,178, 1996, Damian Poalucci - 527, 472, 179
961, 2011,
Ray Wagner - 375, 323, 263
200/HALF: Wagner has thrown for 200 yards in a half in all 3 games this season - 375 vs. Pace (1st), 206 at IUP (1st) and 201 vs. Cal (2nd).
KEEPING A CLEAN SHIRT: ESU's veteran offensive line, which has combined for 121 career starts, ranks 3rd among the 63 Division II schools who have attempted at least 100 passes in the lowest percentage of sacks allowed (1.6 percent, 2 in 123 attempts).
Wagner hasn't been sacked in 115 attempts this year. In his career, he has thrown 178 passes and has been sacked 5 times. Both sacks this season came in the 4th quarter vs. Pace with Wagner out of the game.

An All-State tailback at Delone Catholic, Reed moved to wide receiver as a freshman and was one catch short of Carfagno's freshman record of 32 receptions. He had 377 yards and 6 TDs last season and enters this weekend with 705 receiving yards and 9 TDs.
FAST START FOR BLEILER: R-So. WR

Bleiler caught 12 passes for 147 yards as a redshirt freshman last season.
HITTING 100 TOGETHER: Bleiler and Reed were the second set of ESU teammates to have their first career 100-yard receiving games in the same game (vs. Pace) and the first since Ernie Siegrist (192) and Scott Benoit (161) at Millersville in 1982.

So.
Taylor Groff was 12-for-12 inside 40 yards as a freshman but may be a candidate for a medical redshirt after missing the first three games due to injury. Groff was 16-for-21 overall last season, setting the school record for made field goals, and was one of two kickers in Division II to make a field goal in every game. Groff was named to the preseason Watch List for the Fred Mitchell Award, which will be presented to the nation's top kicker in Division II, III, NAIA or NJCAA.
SENIOR QB's STARTING SEASON OPENER
Ray Wagner and
Matt Marshall were the first two seniors to start back-to-back season openers since 1980-81. Barry Kennedy was in his 3rd year as a starter in 1980, and Brian Marshall (Matt's father) started 8 games, including the season opener, in 1981.
ESU QB's TOP PSAC IN TOTAL OFFENSE
Wagner is 2nd in the PSAC and 12th in Division II in total offense, a category that ESU quarterbacks have dominated over the past decade. The Warriors' signal caller has ranked in the top 3 in the PSAC in total offense for 9 straight seasons and led the conference each season from 2002 through 2006.

ESU's fifth-year senior quarterback came to ESU from Susquehanna Township HS (Harrisburg area), where he was a 3-year starter and was 2nd team All-State after leading his team to the Mid-Penn AAA championship and a 10-2 record as a senior. He threw for 1,500 yards and 18 TDs and ran for 800 yards and 14 TDs in 2006.
WAGNER FEATURED ON NCAA.COM
Wagner's record-setting first career start was featured on NCAA.com's "Nine at Noon" on Wednesday, Sept. 7 as the No. 1 performance you might have missed from the previous week. His 6 TD passes were listed in a numerical rundown on usatoday.com's "Campus Rivalries" page.
