EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University men's basketball head coach
Jeff Wilson, assistant coach
Justin Potts and the rest of their staff will participate in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend on Saturday as the Warriors host Shippensburg at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The initiative, a collaborative effort of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), has encouraged NABC members to wear sneakers instead of dress shoes with their suits this weekend to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society.
Fans may support this cause by texting COACH to 20222 from any wireless phone to make a $5 donation towards Coaches vs. Cancer. Every text from January 21 through April 9 will enter fans for a chance to win exclusive basketball experiences like watching top teams courtside at the 2013 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic or autographed gear.
The ESU men's basketball program is also in the fourth season of its “Man Up Against Cancer” campaign for the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center at Pocono Medical Center.
The organizations have partnered with Halterman's Toyota Scion throughout January, with Halterman's donating $5 from each oil change at its Express Lube location on Route 447 to support the cancer center.
This is the third phase of the program's partnership with the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center and Pocono Medical Center.
In December, the Warriors presented a check for $5,000 and in return, a meditation bench was placed in the center's Healing Garden with an inscription of “East Stroudsburg University Basketball – 6th Man Against Cancer”. That phase was funded by the sale of “6th Man” t-shirts and the generous contributions of last year's Halterman's promotion.
Previously, the Warriors donated $1,500 in 2006 from the sale of “True Warrior” bracelets.
The Warriors would like to thank their fans for their ongoing support of this initiative!
