ESU Women’s Soccer Listed No. 1 in NCAA DII Atlantic Region Rankings; Hosts PSAC Final Four on Friday and Saturday

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University is ranked No. 1 in this week's NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings that will set the field for the NCAA Tournament later this month, it was announced Wednesday.
 
ESU (18-1) will host the PSAC Final Four this weekend at Eiler-Martin Stadium, with four of the region's top eight teams participating.

The six schools that advance to the Atlantic Regional will be announced on Monday, November 10, along with the rest of the NCAA Tournament field.

The PSAC champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Mountain East Conference will receive an automatic bid beginning in 2015.
 
The current regional rankings reflect results through Sunday, prior to this week's PSAC quarterfinals (Tuesday) and Mountain East Conference semifinals (Wednesday).
 
ESU (17-1 through Sunday) leads a regional top 10 that also includes West Chester (15-1-1), Notre Dame (Ohio) (11-2-2), Kutztown (13-4), Slippery Rock (11-5-1), Edinboro (10-6-2), WV Wesleyan (11-3-2), California (Pa.) (11-3-4), IUP (9-6-3) and Charleston (W.V.) (10-6-1).
 
In Friday's PSAC semifinals at Eiler-Martin Stadium, ESU hosts California at 1 p.m., followed by West Chester vs. Kutztown at 3:30 p.m.
 
The PSAC championship game will be played on Saturday at 6 p.m.

In Tuesday's PSAC quarterfinals, ESU beat IUP 5-0, West Chester beat Gannon 3-0, Kutztown beat Edinboro 2-0 and California beat Slippery Rock 2-1.
 
In the Mountain East Conference, Notre Dame and WV Wesleyan advanced to Sunday's championship game with wins on Wednesday. Notre Dame defeated Shepherd, 2-0, and WV Wesleyan knocked off Charleston, 1-0.

ESU is looking for its third NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. The Warriors qualified in 1997 and advanced with a first-round win in 2008.
 
ESU is also looking for its third PSAC championship this weekend, previously winning titles in 1994 and 1997. This years' Warriors won the school's first-ever PSAC regular season title and is in the midst of an 18-game winning streak, the second-longest in PSAC history.
 
On Wednesday, ESU head coach Rob Berkowitz was named PSAC Coach of the Year and six Warriors were named to the All-PSAC team - sophomore midfielder Shea Neal and senior back Lexie Peveraro on the first team; senior forward Courtney Keller, sophomore back Laurel Neira and freshman goalkeeper Jules Harris on the second team; and freshman back Amanda Vojta on the third team.
