Allison Howard had 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists to pace the Warriors (3-6, 2-4 PSAC), who bounced back after a 72-49 loss at Gannon on Tuesday night.
Senior guard
Ryann Fiascki scored eight points after netting 18 at Gannon, and senior forward
Jessica Martin had eight points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
Amesha Harden-Pullium scored 10 points and Tania Holmes had nine to lead Clarion (1-8, 0-5).
ESU led 29-17 at halftime and extended its advantage to 40-21 midway through the second half. Clarion pulled within 40-30 with a 9-0 run, but ESU responded with 12-1 surge to put the game out of reach.
Veres scored six points and Martin and Murray had five each in ESU's 21-5 first-half run, which turned a 7-4 deficit at the 16-minute mark into a 25-12 lead with six minutes left in the period. Clarion was 2-for-11 with four turnovers in the stretch.
ESU had runs of 13-0 and 8-0 in the first half, and 9-0 and 10-0 in the second half, to answer every Clarion challenge.
Clarion shot 29.1 percent (16-for-55) with 15 turnovers. The Golden Eagles were 7-for-26 (26.9 percent) in the first half, and 9-for-29 (31.0 percent) in the second half.
ESU shot 31.6 percent (18-for-57) with 14 turnovers, but made three more three-pointers (5-2) and 12 more free throws (19-7) than the Golden Eagles. The Warriors also held a 46-35 advantage on the glass.
Junior guard
Melissa Poderis had a strong all-around game with four points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Freshman forward
Rebecca Rutkowski had three blocked shots in six minutes of action.
Veres hit three three-pointers, giving her 128 in her career, second-most in school history. Maryellen Onofre (2003-07) holds the school record with 184.
Martin finished the game with exactly 700 career rebounds, seventh-most in school history. She ranks second with 229 blocked shots, 10 from the record of 239 held by Sue Richards (1982-85). Martin has 974 career points and is closing in on becoming the 14th 1,000-point scorer in program history.
ESU returns to Koehler Fieldhouse to host Pitt-Johnstown (7-3, 4-2) on Saturday at 4 p.m. UPJ fell to Bloomsburg, 82-73 (OT), on Wednesday after an 85-80 (OT) win over Lock Haven on Tuesday.
