Dan Ingulli has been recognized as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's "Champion Scholar" for the 2014-15 Wrestling Championships, the conference announced Saturday at Bloomsburg.
Â
Ingulli (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack), a Business Management major, has a 3.93 grade-point average in his academic career at ESU.
He is the third straight Warrior to receive the award, following
Joseph Hoy in 2013-14, and Tony Vorndran in 2012-13.
Â
Ingulli, ESU's starter at 174 pounds, won his first-round bout at the PSAC Championships with a 4-2 decision over Millersville's Dmitry Callas. He has a 2-8 record this season and an 0-3 dual mark. He posted a win in the first round of the ESU Open on November 16. He was also a starter in two duals last year.
He is ESU's fourth "Champion Scholar" overall, joining Hoy, Vorndran and Lisa Lower, who was recognized at the PSAC Cross Country Championships in the fall of 2011.
The PSAC Champion Scholar Awards are modeled after the NCAA's Elite 88 award and honors the student-athlete with the top GPA who is competing at the site of each of the PSAC's 23 championship finals.
Â
The selection criteria for the Champion Scholar Awards is identical to that of the NCAA Elite 88 awards, which honor the student-athlete with the top GPA at each of the championship finals sites of the 88 NCAA championships across all three divisions - I, II and III.
