Horn, Madden, Toth, Women’s 4x800m Relay Win PSAC Titles on First Night of PSAC Indoor Championships

LEWISBURG - Senior Theresa Horn (pentathlon), senior Elizabeth Madden (women's weight throw) and junior Travis Toth (men's weight throw) all won individual PSAC titles, and the women's 4x800m relay also took conference gold on the first day of the PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday night at Bucknell University.

Horn posted a score of 3,355 points, hitting PR's in four of the five events, to finish the Warriors' night in central Pennsylvania.

Madden defended her PSAC title in the women's weight throw, improving her school record to 55-3 1/2, and Toth won the men's weight throw at 60-10 after entering with the conference's best mark at 63-7 3/4.

The women's 4x800m relay of senior Meghan Ragard, junior Imani Rosario, freshman Lauren Toth and senior Kim Wernerspach ran 9:25.29 to break an 11-year-old school record by almost six seconds.

The Warriors trailed Millersville by about three seconds when Wernerspach got the baton and ripped off a four-lap time of 2:16.92. Ragard (2:23.20), Rosario (2:20.91) and Toth (2:24.24) also ran outstanding splits to earn the championship.

ESU's women, buoyed by its three championship performances, leads the field with 38.5 points, followed by Slippery Rock (30.5), Shippensburg (23), Seton Hill and IUP (20) and Bloomsburg and Kutztown (19).

Horn had a PR of 117 points in the heptathlon, and freshman Brandie Tartza posted a big PR of 194 points to place fourth with 2,957 points.

ESU also got scoring performances from sophomore Kirsten Muhaw in the pole vault (t-6th - 11-2 1/2) and sophomore Caitlin Perry in the 800m (8th - 18:20.00).

Junior Danielle Smith, a five-time PSAC sprint champion, enters Sunday with top prelim times in the 60m dash (7.68) and 200m (25.61). Senior Rachel Pierantozzi also qualified for the finals in both events, third in the 60m (7.79) and eighth in the 200m (25.91).

The Warriors' men are fourth in the team standings with 35 points - trailing only Lock Haven (48), Shippensburg (46) and Slippery Rock (41.5).

Toth and junior Mike Smith (4th - 58-8) combined for 15 points in the weight throw.

Senior Chris Schneider placed third in the 5000m (15:03.57) for his best-ever PSAC finish, and sophomore Corey Smith was fourth in the pole vault (14-9 1/2).

ESU got nine points from its two relays, placing third in the 4x800m relay (7:52.99) and sixth in the Distance Medley Relay (10:35.58).

The Warriors have eight finalists in the sprints and hurdles after Saturday's prelims.

Junior Damien Boham, the reigning PSAC outdoor champ in the 400m, had the top qualifying time (49.30) with sophomore Derrick Washington fifth (49.89).

Sophomore Seth Bailey, also the third seed in the high jump, was fourth in the 60m dash prelims (7.05) with junior Kyle Rickard sixth (7.13).

Senior Keith Parker-Washington, expected to be a key contributor on the defending PSAC champion 4x400m relay on Sunday, is eighth in the 200m qualifying in 22.62.

The Warriors have three finalists in the 60m hurdles in freshman Steven Morgan (2nd - 8.38), sophomore Adam Robertino (5th - 8.51) and freshman Ronald D'Eliseo (7th - 8.58).

Sophomore Eric Conard is tied for eighth in the heptathlon with 2,209 through four of seven events.

The second and final day of action gets underway on Sunday with field event finals beginning at 11 a.m., and track finals starting at 1:30 p.m.
