Thursday RecapSHIPPENSBURG – Junior
Travis Toth won the men's hammer throw for his second career PSAC championship and sophomore
William Berry won the men's high jump for his first, leading East Stroudsburg University on the second day of the 2014 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Shippensburg on Friday.
Toth had a mark of 198-11 in the hammer that should qualify him for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships later this month, following up on the PSAC indoor title in the weight throw in late February. Toth was conference runner-up in both the hammer and weight as a sophomore.
Berry captured the high jump with a mark of 6-10 1/4 and was clean on all of his attempts until 7-0 1/4. Shippensburg's Jalen Ramsey, who had the top mark going in, also cleared 6-10 1/4 but missed early in his first attempts at 6-4 1/4 and 6-6 1/4 to put Berry in control.
He improved his NCAA provisional mark to 14th on the national list and is coming off a trip to the indoor championships. He was the PSAC runner-up in the high jump indoors and has placed in the top three in the event in all four PSAC Championships in his career.
