Travis Toth earned All-America status in the men's hammer throw with an eighth-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which opened Thursday at Grand Valley State.
Toth had a mark of 193-1 on the second of his three throws in the prelims, which held up for All-America honors after the finals.
He is the 23rd All-American in ESU men's track and field history and the second in the men's hammer, joining current assistant coach Paul Wagner who earned All-America status in 2009 and 2010.
Toth, who entered ranked 13th on the national list with a PR of 198-11, competed in an NCAA Championship meet for the third time in his career.
He was 13th last year with a mark of 183-9 at Colorado State-Pueblo, and was 11th in the weight throw (60-5 3/4) at this year's indoor championships at Winston-Salem State (N.C.).
Toth caps off a 2014 season in which he claimed PSAC championships in both the weight throw (60-10) and hammer throw (198-11). His top mark in both events (weight 63-7 3/4, hammer 198-11) both rank second in school history.
ESU sent three national qualifiers to Grand Valley with two high jumpers set to compete the next two days.
Sophomore
William Berry, coming off his first career PSAC championship, will compete in the men's high jump on Friday at 4:30 p.m. This marks Berry's second NCAA trip after finishing tied for ninth indoors in March. He is tied for 17th on the national list at 6-10 1/4.
Junior Christina O'Connor enters her third NCAA competition on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Coming off her third PSAC championship, O'Connor earned All-America honors with a sixth-place finish indoors as a sophomore, and was ninth indoors this year.
O'Connor is tied for ninth on the national list at 5-7 3/4 and was ESU's top-ranked athlete entering the NCAA's.
