ALLENDALE, Mich. – East Stroudsburg University sophomore
William Berry competed in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the high jump on Friday at Grand Valley State.
Berry was one of four athletes who no-heighted at 6-6 3/4 and one of six who failed to clear their opening height.
Berry was also an NCAA indoor qualifier for the Warriors, where he tied for ninth with a mark of 6-8 3/4. He was tied for 17th on the national list entering the NCAA's at 6-10 1/4.
Jeron Robinson (Texas A&M-Kingsville) won the national title with a meet record of 7-6 1/2, outdueling Edward Dudley (Lake Erie), who edged Robinson for the indoor title.
Robinson and Dudley were both clean through 7-2 1/2 before Robinson cleared 7-3 1/4 on his first attempt, while Dudley failed to get over the bar. Robinson cleared 7-6 1/2 on his third and final attempt, setting the meet record, before missing three times at 7-7.
Berry was the PSAC champion with his mark of 6-10 1/4 on May 2 at Shippensburg. Indoors, he was the PSAC runner-up to teammate
Seth Bailey. Berry and Bailey share the school record of 6-11 3/4.
Junior Christina O'Connor (high jump) will compete in her third NCAA Championships on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. O'Connor was an indoor All-American as a sophomore in 2013 and was ninth indoors this year.
On Thursday, junior
Travis Toth earned All-America status in the men's hammer with an eighth-place finish and a mark of 193-1.
