1 • ESU travels to Kutztown for a key PSAC East game on the 4th Saturday in October. The Warriors (4-3, 3-1) and Golden Bears (3-4, 2-2) look to stay in the hunt for the divisional title after suffering OT losses this month. ESU fell to Shippensburg, 69-67 (5OT), on Oct. 3 and Kutztown fell at Bloomsburg, 27-21 (OT), last Saturday.  

2 • Kutztown has won 4 of the last 5 meetings. The Warriors won in their last trip to Kutztown, 43-26, in 2013 as Matt Soltes threw for 305 yards and 3 TD, Robert Healy gained 192 yards (146 rushing, 46 receiving) and Bryan Thomson had 3.5 of ESU's 8 sacks. Last fall, Kutztown prevailed 31-16 as Soltes suffered a season-ending injury on ESU's first possession of the 3rd quarter trailing 17-9.   

3 • Head coach Denny Douds holds the PSAC record for career wins (254), ranking 3rd in DII history, 20th in NCAA history and 3rd among active coaches.

4 • Douds holds the DII record and leads active coaches in career games (436). He coached his 500th overall game with the Warriors on Sept. 19 (56-12 W vs. Edinboro). Douds has been part of 504 of ESU's 804 games, and 299 of 470 wins, as a varsity program (since 1926).
4a • Douds is in his 42nd season as head coach and 50th at ESU overall.

5 • ESU is 2nd in DII in passing offense (380.7 ypg), 5th in scoring offense (44.6 ppg) and 9th in total offense (507.9 ypg) thru 7 weeks.

6 • R-Sr. QB Matt Soltes leads DII in total offense (400.0 ypg), ranks 2nd in passing (379.1 ypg) and leads all NCAA divisions in pass TD (32).
6a • Soltes tied a DII record last week with his 12th game with 5+ TD passes, equaling Curt Anes (Grand Valley St, 1999-02). Soltes also holds the DII record for career games with 500 yards total offense (6), and is t-1st in games with 600 yards (2).

7 • Soltes is a 2-time Harlon Hill candidate, joining 2014 winner Jason Vander Laan (QB, Ferris St) as the only active 2-time candidates.
7a • Soltes leads active DII QB's in career total offense per game (353.6 - 2nd in DII history), total offense (12,728 yds), passing yards per game (313.8), pass efficiency (162.7) and pass TD (117 - leads all divisions).

8 • R-Sr. WR Jon Schnaars leads DII in receiving (147.0 ypg), receptions (10.1 per game) and TD (16). He has 100+ yards in 6 of ESU's 7 games and is the only DII WR with 200+ yards in 2 games this year. He leads active DII players in career TD catches (39) and his 20 catches and 7 TD vs. Ship are both the most in NCAA football this year.

9 • R-Jr. TB Robert Healy is the only NCAA player with 500+ yards rushing (500) and receiving (545) thru 7 weeks. He is 133 rushing yards from ESU's career record (2,579 - Rick Sterner, 1988-92).  

10 • Schnaars (1,029), Sr. WR Gerard Wendowski (569) and Healy (545) are the top receiving trio in DII with 2,143 yards (80% of ESU's passing yards).

THE SERIES: ESU and Kutztown have met 63 times, with the Warriors holding a 44-18-1 advantage. Kutztown won 31-16 at ESU last year, answering the Warriors' 43-26 win at Kutztown in 2013. KU has won 4 of the last 5 and captured 3 straight in the series from 2010-12 (tied for its longest win streak in series history). ESU previously won 9 straight from 2001-09. ESU head coach Denny Douds is 26-15 in his first 41 contests against the Golden Bears, playing every year since 1974.

DOUDS' MILESTONES: Douds is one of 13 men to reach 40 seasons as head coach in NCAA football history, the 9th to coach 40 years at one school, and the 5th to spend all of his 40+ year career at the same institution. He joins Eddie Robinson (Grambling, 1941-42, 45-97), John E. Dorman (Upper Iowa, 1905-06, 09-42, 45-59), Joe Paterno (Penn State, 1966-2011) and Jim Malosky (Minn.-Duluth, 1958-97) on that list.

THE HEAD COACHES: Denny Douds (Slippery Rock '63) has a career record of 254-179-3 (.586) in his 42nd season. He is in his 50th season at ESU overall, including 8 years as an assistant coach from 1966-73. He has led the Warriors to 9 PSAC titles and 4 NCAA Playoff appearances since taking over as head coach in 1974. His teams won outright state titles in 1975, 1978 and 1982 before the State Game was discontinued following the 1987 season. His teams have claimed PSAC East divisional titles in 1975, 1976, 1978, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1991, 2002 and 2003. NCAA Playoff appearances have come in 1991, 2004, 2005 - when the Warriors won the Northeast Region title and advanced to the national semifinals - and 2009.

Jim Clements (Widener '96) is 9-9 in his 2nd season at Kutztown, and has a career record of 75-33 in his 10th collegiate season, including a mark of 66-24 in 8 years at Delaware Valley (2006-13). Kutztown was 6-5 (5-4 PSC East) in his inaugural season in 2014. He previously led Delaware Valley to 4 straight Middle Atlantic Conference championships (2008-11) and 3 NCAA 2nd round appearances (2009-11). He was a 3-time MAC Coach of the Year and posted an 11-1 record in 2011, including an undefeated regular season. Clements was assistant head coach/defensive coordinator for 2 years following a 6-year stint his alma mater, Widener.

TRENDING UP: ESU has notched 2 straight winning seasons (6-5 in 2014, 7-4 in 2013), building on a 5-5 mark in 2012 after consecutive 3-8 seasons in 2010 and 2011. Since 2000, ESU is 105-67 (.610) with a .500+ record in 12 of 15 years.
