ESU Postseason Awards History (PDF)EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University redshirt senior wide receiver
Jon Schnaars has been named to the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) NCAA Division II All-America team for the 2015 season and is the first Warrior named AFCA All-America in 24 years, it was announced Thursday.
Schnaars (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) leads Division II in receptions per game (10.4), yards per game (146.4) and receiving TD (22), hauling in 114 receptions for 1,610 yards in 11 games.
The AFCA All-America team is the only postseason squad that selects just a first team, comprised of 11 players on offense and 11 on defense, plus kicking specialists and an all-purpose back, for 25 All-America selections among more than 12,000 DII football players.
Schnaars is the sixth AFCA All-America in program history, joining defensive back Willard Stem (1975), defensive end Ray Yakavonis (1979), linebacker Mike Reichebach (1983), quarterback Andy Baranek (1984) and defensive back Curtis Bunch (1991). He joins Baranek as the only ESU offensive players recognized by the AFCA.
Schnaars' season ranks in the top 15 in DII history in all three major receiving categories, ranking 10th in receptions (114), 15th in yards (1,610) and tied for seventh in receiving TD (22). He is second in receptions, third in yards and tied for second in TD in PSAC history.
He set an ESU record for single-season receptions, breaking the previous mark of 88 in 14 games set by Evan Prall in 2005. His 1,610 receiving yards are second behind Prall's 1,766 yards, and his 22 receiving TD are second behind Prall's 23.
He set ESU's career record for receptions (239), ranks third in yards (3,447) and second in TD (45) - ranking in the top 10 in PSAC history in all three categories (5th in receptions, 8th in yards and t-5th in TD).

Matt Soltes helped ESU rank second in DII in passing offense (361.5 ypg) this season. Soltes was named the PSAC East Offensive Player of the Year, D2CCA Super Region 1 Offensive Player of the Year and is one of eight national finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy, awarded to the nation's most outstanding player. Soltes led DII in passing yards per game (354.5) and passing TD (41) and ranked second in total offense (373.6) in the regular season.
Schnaars was named to the D2CCA All-Region first team last week and is a candidate for All-America honors from the nation's sports information directors.
He had 100 yards receiving in nine of 11 games, including three 200-yard games. He set PSAC records with 20 catches and seven TD and had 218 yards in a 69-67 (5OT) loss vs. Shippensburg, had nine catches for 200 yards and two TD in a 56-12 win vs. Edinboro and 16 catches for 222 yards and four TD in a 49-37 win vs. Gannon in the final game of the season.
He had seven catches for 125 yards and the go-ahead two-point conversion with 1:10 remaining in ESU's 35-34 win vs. Bloomsburg, its first over the Huskies since 2005.
He had five games with at least 10 catches, and eight games with at least nine receptions, including a streak of 9+ catches in six straight games.
Schnaars was previously named to the All-PSAC East second team in 2014 with 58 catches, 807 yards and 14 TD.
Academically, he is a two-time Academic All-America selection and was named to the first team this season. He was also a national semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy.
Schnaars, quarterback Jason Vander Laan (Ferris State) and kicker Brent Wahle (Ohio Dominican) are the only players named AFCA All-America and first team Academic All-America in 2015.
Schnaars is the third ESU wide receiver named to an All-America team, joining Evan Prall (2005-06) and Mike Mancuso (1996-97).
He is one of three PSAC players named to the AFCA All-America team, all on offense, joining Slippery Rock senior offensive lineman Cory Tucker and Kutztown junior offensive lineman Jordan Morgan.
