ESU preview l Complete Results: Prelims l Finals

YORK - Junior Ashleigh Podhayny and freshman Kate Zimmerman reached the consolation final in the 200 IM and freshman Colleen Dwyer set a school record in the 50 back on the first day of the 2015 PSAC Swimming Championships at the York YMCA on Thursday.

Podhayny swam a time of 2:09.25 to finish 10th in the consolation final, with Zimmerman 16th in 2:12.89. Podhayny was 13th (2:11.50) and Zimmerman 15th (2:12.18) in the morning prelims.

ESU was eighth in the 200 medley relay with Dwyer leading off with an ESU record time (28.03) in the 50 back. The Warriors' quartet of Dwyer, Zimmerman, senior Mara Palazzari and senior Karoline Vavra swam a time of 1:50.06.

Dwyer broke the 50 back record that was set by Shelby Stalnaker (28.07) last year in the same event.

Vavra just missed a spot in the 50 free consolation final, placing 16th in the prelims in 24.73.

Junior Cyndi Kline was 22nd in the 1000 free in 11:02.73, a 20-second PR.

ESU is ninth in the team standings through the first day of competition. The Warriors have placed ninth the last two years, their best finishes since 2002.

Action continues on Friday morning with prelims in the 400 IM, 100 fly and 200 free. Finals in those events, along with the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay, will be contested on Friday night.
