EDINBORO - Senior Danielle Smith put herself in position to contend for two more PSAC sprint championships, and sophomores Steven Morgan and Ronald D'Eliseo ran 1-2 in the men's 60m hurdles prelims on the first day of the 2015 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Edinboro.

ESU's men had three scoring performances in the long jump to highlight the first day of finals. Both of ESU's 4x800m relays finished third, and both Distance Medley Relays placed fourth.

In the men's long jump, freshman Zach Dillon was third (22-3 1/2), Morgan fifth (21-10) and sophomore John Alston eighth (21-8 3/4) to give the Warriors 11 team points.

The women's 4x8 of freshman Kaylyn West, junior Heather Spadola, freshman Hope Decker and sophomore Erin Brady was third in 9:48.12. In the DMR, freshman Samantha Young, West, sophomore Lauren Toth and sophomore Allison Decker combined for a time of 12:24.89.

Smith headlined the prelim performances, setting up two opportunities for finals on Sunday. Smith has seven individual PSAC championships, tied for the most in school history.

She was second in the 60m prelims (7.68) and first in the 200m prelims (25.02), both NCAA DII provisional qualifying times. She is the two-time defending champion in both events.

Freshman Keneesha Jones just missed the 60m dash final, placing ninth in the prelims in 7.93.

Morgan (8.23 - NCAA provisional) and D'Eliseo (8.33) both ran PR's to place 1-2 in the 60m hurdles prelims entering Sunday. Junior Adam Robertino qualified sixth for the final in 8.52.

Morgan is the defending outdoor 110m hurdles champ and was second indoors last season. D'Eliseo was fourth in the 60 hurdles as a freshman and third in both the 110 and 400 hurdles outdoors.

ESU also has qualifiers in the 60m dash, 200m and 400m. In the 60, freshman Ernest Pendleton qualified seventh in 7.09 after ranking 12th on the entry list (7.15) entering the weekend.

D'Eliseo made the 200 final, qualifying fifth in 22.32 seconds. Junior Derrick Washington is fifth in the 400 (49.60) and just missed giving ESU four finalists in the 60m hurdles, placing ninth (8.54).

Junior Eric Conard is 10th through the first four of seven events in the heptathlon. Conard was seventh in the heptathlon a year ago.

ESU's men stand fourth and the women 10th through the first day of competition, with most of the finals set to be contested on Sunday.

Several of ESU's top athletes will be in action, including senior Christina O'Connor, a three-time PSAC champion in the high jump who has the conference's top mark (5-8) this season.

Junior William Berry, last year's outdoor high jump champion, has the men's No. 2 mark at 6-9 3/4. Senior Damien Boham, who has a PSAC title in the men's 400m (2013 outdoors), competes in the 800m run.
