Christina O'Connor will make her fourth career appearance at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships in search of her third All-America honor as she competes in the high jump on Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama.
O'Connor (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) is tied for third on the entry list at 5-10, a school record and tied for the PSAC record. She competes Saturday night at 6:15 p.m. (ET).
On Monday, O'Connor was named the USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Atlantic Region Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
She cleared 5-10 to win her fourth career PSAC championship on March 1 at Edinboro. The mark tied the conference record set by Maureen Fitzpatrick (West Chester) in 1977, and broke the school record of 5-9 1/4 held by current assistant coach Karen (Way) Gaita in 1991 and tied by six-time All-American Lynn Mayer in 2011.
O'Connor previously earned All-America honors (top-eight finish) during the 2013 indoor season (6th, 5-8) and the 2014 outdoor season (5th, 5-8). She was also a national qualifier indoors in 2014, placing ninth.
Gaita was named the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Women's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year for the second straight year on Monday.
O'Connor is tied for third on the national list with Emilee Iverson, a freshman from Pittsburg State (Kan.).
Erika Kinsey, a freshman from Central Missouri, has the DII-leading mark at 6-2 3/4. Ashland senior Jennifer Foster is the No. 2 seed (5-10 1/4).
O'Connor is one of six women's high jumpers to compete at the NCAA Championships for ESU, and one of five who have earned All-America honors.
Gaita was a four-time All-American, the 1991 DII outdoor champion and a two-time national runner-up.
Shavanna Ross was a two-time national qualifier and indoor All-American in 2001, and Leslie Martin was a two-time national qualifier and indoor All-American in 2007.
Mayer was a six-time All-American, earning certificates both indoors and outdoors in 2008, 2010 and 2011. Janelle Smith was a four-time national qualifier from 2008-10.
