QUAKERTOWN - East Stroudsburg University's first appearance in the PSAC Softball Tournament since 2010 ended Thursday, as the Warriors fell to California, 6-0, and Bloomsburg, 10-3, at Veterans Park.

California's Alex Sagl, the PSAC West Pitcher of the Year, improved to 17-4 with her seventh shutout of the season in ESU's opener. Sagl allowed three hits and retired the first 14 batters before a two-out walk in the fifth inning.

Freshman catcher Janine Giordano, freshman OF Katherine Liedberg and senior 1B Cara McNeil had singles for the Warriors.

ESU led Bloomsburg, 2-0, after three innings in an elimination game on Thursday night, but the Huskies scored one in the fourth, fourth in the fifth and five in the seventh.

Taylor Parker (13-4) gained the win in relief for Bloomsburg, throwing 4.2 innings and allowing an unearned run.

ESU had five hits off Parker and starter Sarah Bortner.

The Warriors earned their PSAC Tournament spot with a pair of wins over Bloomsburg last Saturday behind strong pitching performances from junior Allison Mende and sophomore Rachael Liguori.

Junior designated player Sierra Wagner, a first team All-PSAC East pick, had an RBI single for the Warriors against Bloomsburg.

ESU (21-20) finishes the season with a winning record for the first time since going 29-28 in 2007. The Warriors reached the PSAC Tournament four straight years (2007-10) before returning this spring with a fourth-place finish in the PSAC East.

Four ESU seniors finished their careers on Thursday - first baseman Cara McNeil, second baseman Jamie Smith, outfielder Cara Woods and outfielder Kasey Meckes, who was named to the All-PSAC East second team.

All four wrapped up their four years with more than 100 hits - McNeil with 141 (ninth in school history), Woods with 108, Meckes 106 and Smith 105. McNeil also ranks tied for fourth in career RBI (80) and tied for ninth in career total bases (195). Smith had a .366 career on-base percentage, in the top 20 on ESU's career list. Meckes scored 75 runs, 10th in school history.

Freshman 3B Mary Wallick, named to the All-PSAC East first team, was the Warriors' top hitter at .348 and also led the Warriors in on-base percentage (.400), slugging percentage (.486), total bases (67) and runs (26).

Her 67 total bases are an ESU freshman record, and 48 hits and 26 runs are tied for ESU's freshman marks. She also ranks second in on-base percentage and slugging percentage, and tied for second in extra-base hits (13).

Wagner hit .328, followed by McNeil at .320 (team-high 24 RBI) and sophomore SS Rae Holden, who finished the year at .300.

Liguori (2.35 ERA, 131.1 IP, 89 strikeouts) and Mende (3.73 ERA, 116.1 IP, 64 strikeouts) both posted identical 10-9 records in the circle. Liguori pitched in 25 games (19 starts) with 14 complete games and four shutouts, and Mende threw 23 games (16 starts) with nine complete games and one shutout.
