EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University sophomore forward
Alex Pickett, who scored five goals in a pair of Warrior wins last week, was chosen as the PSAC Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Pickett (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) takes home her second weekly honor of the fall after previously receiving the award on Oct. 3. She becomes the sixth player in program history to earn multiple Athlete of the Week accolades in a single season.
ESU concluded the regular season with a 4-1 win at Gannon on Saturday, and Pickett netted three of those goals for her first career collegiate hat trick. She tied the game at 1-1 in the 25th minute, put the Warriors in front in the 70th minute, and completed the hat trick with 53 seconds left in the contest.
Earlier in the week, Pickett supplied two goals and an assist in ESU's 8-2 win at Bloomfield on Monday. She has registered multiple goals in four games this season, and she has scored in six of her last eight appearances overall, tallying 11 goals during that span.
The Warriors are 12-0-1 in 2016 with Pickett in the starting lineup and 1-4 in all other contests. Her hat trick on Saturday was the first for the program since senior midfielder
Shea Neal scored all three goals in a 3-0 win against IUP in 2014.
Pickett leads ESU with 12 goals and 26 points this season after finishing with 10 points (4 G, 2 A) during her freshman campaign in 2015. Her 12 goals are the most in a single season for a Warrior player since Devon Miniscalco also netted 12 back in 2009.
ESU has garnered Athlete of the Week accolades four times this season, with junior midfielder
Sammi Ortiz (Sept. 19) and senior back
Hannah Gombos (Sept. 6) also previously recognized.
The Warriors (13-4-1, 12-3-1) have won each of the past two PSAC women's soccer championships. They begin their quest for a third-straight title at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Eiler-Martin Stadium, hosting Slippery Rock in the quarterfinal round.
