EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University junior midfielder Sydney McCarthy has been named the PSAC "Champion Scholar" for the 2016 PSAC Field Hockey Championships as the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average at the championship site, announced Friday.

McCarthy (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg), an Exercise Science major, has a 4.0 GPA through 67 credits at ESU.

McCarthy was named to the All-PSAC second team on Wednesday after starting all 18 games in the midfield, recording four goals and three assists. She has scored goals in three of the last four games entering the PSAC Tournament.

She had two goals and four assists while starting all 22 games as a sophomore on ESU's PSAC and NCAA Division II championship team, and was named the NCAA DII "Elite 90" Award recipient as the student-athlete with the top GPA at the Final Four.
