EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University junior forward
Rasheed Moore has been named the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Organization's Pete Nevins Player of the Year, it was announced Thursday at a media luncheon in Center Valley.
Moore (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Meyers) gives ESU the men's Player of the Year recipient for the fourth straight year, following
Whis Grant (2013) and
Matt Tobin (2014-15).
They join Rich Baker (2004) as ESU players to be selected as Player of the Year.
Junior forward Allison Howard (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) was ESU's selection for the women's player of the year award. The women's Pete Nevins Player of the Year was Muhlenberg sophomore guard Brandi Vallely.
The Player of the Year award was renamed in 2007 in honor of Pete Nevins, ESU's sports information director from 1969-2002 and the founder of the small college basketball organization.
There were 11 players selected on the organization's "Team of the Year", which recognizes a men's and women's player from each of the five area schools, plus the Cedar Crest women's program.
Joining Moore on the men's team were Kutztown's Ryan Connolly, DeSales' Cody Deal, Moravian's Brandon McGuire and Mulhenberg's Nick Rindock.
Howard and Vallely were joined on the women's team by Kutztown's Natalya Lee, DeSales' Morgan McCollian, Cedar Crest's Taylor Osley and Moravian's Alexis Wright.
Moore is ESU's leading scorer (13.1 ppg) and second-leading rebounder (6.7 rpg), helping the Warriors to an 18-6 record (14-6 PSAC) entering the final two games of the regular season.
A two-time All-PSAC East second team selection, Moore surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career in January and currently has 1,103 career points, 20th in school history. He also ranks 14th at ESU with 540 career rebounds.
Moore was the first ESU player named All-PSAC East in both of his first two seasons and helped the Warriors to consecutive PSAC East regular season titles in 2014 and 2015. He was the PSAC East Freshman of the Year and named to the Division II Bulletin All-Freshman team in 2013-14, averaging 13.6 points and 6.3 rebounds as the Warriors went 30-2, won the PSAC title and finished as Atlantic Region runner-up. He averaged 12.6 points and 6.3 rebounds as a sophomore.
ESU has a record of 67-18 in Moore's three seasons with the Warriors. He has scored in double figures in 66 of his 84 games played (82 starts).
Howard leads ESU's women's team in scoring (16.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg), ranking eighth in the PSAC in scoring and 11th in rebounding. She has scored 67 points over the last three games, including 25 points at Kutztown and 23 points in a win at Mansfield on Wednesday night.
She has 905 career points, raising her scoring average this season after posting 11.3 points per game as a freshman and 9.3 per game as a sophomore. She has eight double-doubles this season, giving her 13 in her career, and four 20-point games (eight career).
