ESU Academic Awards History
EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University track and field athlete
Travis Toth has been named to the PSAC Winter Top 10 for athletic and academic achievement, the conference announced Wednesday.
Toth (Newfoundland, Pa./Western Wayne), a second-semester graduate student in Exercise Science, won the PSAC indoor championship in the weight throw and earned second team All-America honors this winter.
The conference list honors five male and five female student-athletes among the conference's 18 institutions. The program requires at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average to be eligible for nomination. Each school may nominate two male and two female student-athletes.
Toth maintained a 3.86 grade-point average in his first semester of graduate work after earning his undergraduate degree with a 3.52 GPA.
He won the PSAC title in the weight throw with a mark of 60-7 1/4 on February 27 at Edinboro, and earned second team All-America status at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships with a mark of 61-9 3/4 on March 11 at Pittsburg State (Kan.).
Toth's season-best mark was 62-11 3/4 at ESU's DeSchriver Invitational on February 6 to earn All-Region status. His PR of 63-7 3/4 was set at the Millrose Games in 2014.
He was the only PSAC athlete with a mark of 60-0 in the weight throw this season, hitting that distance five times.
Toth is in his final season of eligibility after redshirting during the 2014-15 academic year.
He won his third career PSAC championship and second straight in the weight throw (2014, 2016), to go with his PSAC outdoor title in the hammer in 2014.
He gained All-America status for the second time, placing eighth in the hammer in 2014.
ESU had three PSAC Top 10 selections during the fall season in junior Emily Howell (field hockey), redshirt senior Jon Schnaars (football) and redshirt sophomore Devon Ackerman (football).
The Warriors have had 34 student-athletes earn a total of 48 honors, fifth-most in the 18 school conference, since the PSAC's sports information directors began selecting the lists in 1997-98.
All 30 PSAC student-athletes (15 male, 15 female) selected during the academic year are eligible for consideration for the Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which is presented to one male and one female in June.
