MANSFIELD - East Stroudsburg University sophomore
Danielle Swingle has been named the PSAC "Champion Scholar" for the 2016 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships as the women's track and field student-athlete with the highest grade-point average at the championship site, announced Saturday.
Swingle (Lake Ariel, Pa./Western Wayne), a Biochemistry major, has a 4.0 GPA through 53 credits at ESU.
Bloomsburg's Daniel Neiswender, a Nursing major, is the men's recipient with a 4.0 GPA through 65 credits.
Swingle is the sixth ESU student-athlete to be named a PSAC "Champion Scholar" since the program was started in 2011-12.
She follows Alex Zubko, the men's outdoor track and field recipient, at last year's championships held at ESU.
Swingle will compete on ESU's 4x400m relay team on Saturday and was part of the Warriors' top 4x4 relay during the regular season, contributing to a time of 3:58.98 at ESU's All-American Meet on April 23.
She just missed an individual qualifying time in the 400m with a season best of 1:00.32 at Lehigh on April 30, just off the PSAC standard of 1:00.20.
Swingle was a PSAC qualifier in the 400m during the indoor season with a season best of 1:01.00. She ran on ESU's fifth-place 4x4 relay and Distance Medley Relay at the PSAC Indoor Championships.
