Healy tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns and had a career-high 30 carries while adding two receptions for 36 yards for the Warriors (2-1), who overcame a 14-3 second-quarter deficit to beat the Lakers (1-2).

Redshirt senior quarterback Bruce Campbell was 14-for-27 for 159 yards passing and junior wide receiver Tim Wilson had eight catches for 65 yards, including a key 37-yarder, as ESU gained 435 yards on 62 plays (276 yards rushing).

ESU trailed 14-3 early in the second quarter as sophomore kicker Nicolas Ruiz hit a 22-yard field goal before Mercyhurst scored twice, on a 53-yard pass from Altavilla to Clay and a two-yard run by Drew Robinson (6 carries, 26 yards) to cap a 48-yard drive after the second of two interceptions thrown by Campbell.

The Warriors rallied to lead 17-14 at halftime as Healy scored on a five-yard run (following a 36-yard catch on the drive) with 6:45 left in the second quarter, and a 13-yard run by Healy (following a 35-yard run on the drive) with 2:12 left in the half.

ESU led throughout the second half, but never opened more than a 10-point margin after Healy scored on a one-yard run to make it 24-14 with 7:00 left in the third quarter after a 37-yard completion from Campbell to Wilson.

Both teams traded field goals - Dylan Kondis made a 31-yarder for Mercyhurst and Ruiz hit a 28-yarder for ESU with 12:16 remaining - as the Warriors led 27-17 early int he fourth quarter.

Mercyhurst cut it to 27-24 on a 57-yard TD pass from Altavilla to Novak with 8:51 left, before Healy had arguably the biggest play of the game - a 77-yard touchdown run on second-and-24 - to give the Warriors a 34-24 cushion with 5:55 remaining.

Mercyhurst went 81 yards in 12 plays to get within 34-31 with 1:55 left on a 21-yard TD pass from Altavilla to Brian Matthews.

The Warriors recovered the onside kick - by senior fullback Sean Roth - and ran all but eight seconds off the clock. Sophomore Sam O'Brien got the punt away against a Mercyhurst rush that blocked three punts in a 23-19 win at Kutztown last week, and the Warriors held on.

ESU opens PSAC East divisional play next week at Shippensburg (2-1), which won 41-17 vs. Clarion on Saturday. ESU and Shippensburg were the only two PSAC East schools to win this weekend. Ship outlasted ESU, 69-67 (5OT), in the longest game in PSAC history last fall at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
