EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University guard
Marc Rodriguez has been named the PSAC East Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week after averaging 15.5 points per game in the first two games of his career as the Warriors opened 2-0 last weekend.
Rodriguez (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) scored 17 points in 17 minutes in a 113-71 win at Clarion in his ESU debut on Saturday, and had 14 points in 23 minutes in a 99-88 win at Pitt-Johnstown on Sunday.
Rodriguez shot 61.1 percent (11-for-18) from the field, including 56.3 percent (9-for-16) from the three-point line - going 5-for-10 from long distance at Clarion, and 4-for-6 at UPJ.
He also had three rebounds, three assists and four steals in 40 minutes of action.
Rodriguez, a third team All-State (6A) selection at Father Judge as a senior, was first team All-Catholic League and second team All-City while averaging 19.7 points per game. He set a school record with 1,260 career points.
He is one of seven Warriors averaging double figures through the opening weekend, ranking second on the team with 15.5 ppg. He has hit nine of ESU's 25 three-pointers, which included 16 in Saturday's win at Clarion.
ESU hosts Chestnut Hill in its home opener on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the nightcap of a Thanksgiving Eve doubleheader at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Warriors moved up two spots to No. 7 in this week's D2SIDA Atlantic Region poll.
