EDINBORO, Pa. – Two runner-up performances and a new school record highlighted a successful opening day for East Stroudsburg University at the 2017 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Senior

Steve Morgan (No. 2) are each among the top qualifiers for Sunday's 60m hurdle finals.
Lederer earned his highest indoor PSAC performance after completing the 5000m in 15:03.91. That time is almost 10 seconds quicker than his previous personal best of 15:13.75, and it ranks him No. 6 all-time in program history.
The women's 4x800m foursome finished nearly four seconds ahead of third-place Slippery Rock with a time of 9:27.23 (No. 3 in ESU history). The Warriors have now placed in the top three in the 4x800m in each of the past four seasons, including conference titles in 2016 and 2014.

Khai Samuels had a strong outing as well, placing third with a time of 7:54.25 which ranks seventh all-time.
Monahan entered the afternoon tied with Ian Melhorn (2012) for the 60m dash record, with each having a top effort of 7.00. Monahan now stands alone on top, as booked a spot in Sunday's final after crossing the line in 6.98. He will enter Sunday as the No. 8 qualifier, with only 0.03 separating the fourth through eighth qualifiers in the event.
ESU had six runners qualify for Sunday finals overall on the day, with three of those occurring in the 60m hurdles. Gaita has topped the PSAC all year on the women's side, and she was the No. 1 qualifier in today's heats after registering a time of 8.63. That is four-hundredths off her season-best NCAA DII provisional mark of 8.59, and it was eighth-hundredths quicker than No. 2 qualifier Kennedy Evans from Slippery Rock.
Morgan and junior
Christian Castro each earned spots in the men's 60m hurdle final, with Morgan crossing the line in 8.13 while Castro is the No. 6 qualifier at 8.35. Shippensburg's Austin Shipp posted a season-best 8.09 to take the top qualifying spot. Morgan has finished as the runner-up in the event in 2014 and 2016, and he claimed the PSAC title in 2015.
Freshman
Tiana Webster qualified for the 60m dash in the No. 5 position, registering a season-best effort of 7.79 which ranks her tied for No. 3 all-time. She also moved to No. 9 in ESU history with her preliminary time of 25.90 in the 200m, though she missed out on a spot in that final. Senior
Robert Garvey, meanwhile, established a new PR of 49.79 to finish as the No. 6 qualifier in the 400m dash. That time ranks No. 8 in program history.
Four Warriors earned points in field event finals on Saturday, led by a third-place effort from freshman
Austin Horner in the long jump. Horner registered a top distance of 21-11 1/2 to add six points to ESU's team total. Senior
Sean Hagerty tallied an additional three points after placing sixth with a top effort of 21-8.
Gaita and freshman
Me'Saj Closs paced the women in the field. Gaita took sixth in the long jump with a top mark of 17-9 1/2, while Closs finished eighth while setting a new ESU freshman record in the weight throw. Her top toss of 47-11 1/4 ranks No. 6 overall in program history.
Both distance medley relay teams placed in the top eight for the Warriors. Junior

Michayla Weitman just missed out on the top eight in the pentathlon, but her score of 2,872 is a new personal best, and it moves her up to No. 10 on the ESU all-time list.
The Warrior men are currently in fifth place in the team standings with 26 points after five events. Six events have been completed on the women's side, where ESU is tied with Kutztown for seventh place with 16 points.
Day 2 of the championships begins at 10:30 a.m. with the 60m hurdles portion of the men's heptathlon. Warrior sophomore
