ESU Lacrosse Ranked No. 13 in IWLCA DII Poll, Hosts PSAC Final Four This Weekend

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University is listed No. 13 in this week's IWLCA Division II coaches poll, up two spots from last week after defeating a pair of nationally-ranked teams to claim the Warriors' first PSAC regular season title.

ESU (15-2, 11-1) has won 10 straight games, including five against schools that were ranked in the IWLCA Top 20 at the time, to earn the right to host this weekend's PSAC Final Four at Whitenight Field.

ESU, the top seed, will play in the semifinals on Friday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Tuesday's first round game between IUP and Slippery Rock.

West Chester, the second seed, will play the winner of Mercyhurst-Seton Hill in the other semifinal at 4 p.m.

The PSAC championship game will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Warriors knocked off West Chester (17-12) and IUP (16-8) last week to extend a pair of school records, for most wins in a season (15) and most consecutive wins (10).

Five of the six schools in the PSAC Tournament are ranked this week - ESU (13th), West Chester (15th), Mercyhurst (18th), IUP (19th) and Seton Hill (20th).

This is ESU's third straight week in the IWLCA DII poll. The Warriors were No. 17 on April 17 and No. 15 last week.

In the national statistical rankings, freshman goalkeeper Tatyana Petteway continues to lead DII in save percentage (.557) after making 11 saves in Saturday's 16-8 win vs. IUP. She is also sixth in saves per game (11.07) and 13th in goals against average (9.04).

ESU ranks in the top third in DII in both scoring offense (28th - 13.65) and scoring defense (22nd - 9.12) out of 100 DII schools.

The Warriors are 11th in caused turnovers per game (11.76) and eighth in ground balls per game (23.06).

Junior midfielder Chessie Rahmer (44 goals, 10 assists) continues to lead ESU in scoring after posting four goals and an assist in both games last week. Sophomore midfielder Emma Rufolo is tied for second in goals (31), has added 14 assists and leads ESU in caused turnovers (37), ground balls (54) and draw controls (58). Rahmer is second on the team in all three categories.

ESU was sixth in the NCAA DII South Region rankings last week which are used to set the NCAA Tournament field. The top six teams in both the North and South regions will advance to the national tournament, which will be announced following this week's conference tournaments.
