ESU School Records
YORK, Pa. – The school records are continuing to pile up for East Stroudsburg University halfway through this year's PSAC Swimming Championships.
The Warriors added three more program bests on Thursday, as sophomore
Olivia Lukshides and senior
Allison Cardow set new records in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, respectively, while senior
Annie Fagan, senior
Colleen Dwyer, Lukshides and junior
Briana Hall broke a six-year old record during a standout performance in the 200 free relay.
ESU just missed out on another milestone, as Dwyer, senior
Kate Zimmerman, Cardow and Fagan placed seventh in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:57.17 that was one-hundredth of a second away from the school record set in 2013.
That seventh-place result still added 46 points to the Warriors' team score at the conclusion of the evening session, and they are ranked sixth in the team standings with 266 points after Day 2 of the four-day meet. ESU is three points ahead of seventh-place Shippensburg and 27 back of Gannon in fifth place.
Each of ESU's individual records came in the morning preliminaries. Lukshides became the first Warrior to reach an 'A' final at this year's championship meet after she touched the wall eighth with her 200 free time of 1:55.79. That mark was 0.22 under her previous PR, and it was one-tenth quicker than Ashleigh Podhayny's old program best of 1:55.89 set in 2015.
Lukshides went on to place seventh in the evening final after completing the race in 1:56.36. She becomes the fourth ESU top-eight finisher in the past three seasons, with two days still remaining in this year's meet.
Cardow shattered both her previous PR and the old school record in the 100 fly. She qualified for the third 'B' final of her collegiate career after posting a time of 58.05. That is nearly a second under her old best of 58.96, and it was 0.36 ahead of Kimberly Lawson's previous ESU record from 2013.
The Warriors ended up with three finalists in the 100 fly, as Hall and Fagan advanced to the 'C' final. Cardow would go on to record a 13th place finish in the 'B' final with a time of 58.20. Hall placed 22nd (58.96) and Fagan took 24th with a PR time of 59.39 which ranks No. 4 in program history.
The 200 free relay kicked off the evening session, as Fagan, Dwyer, Lukshides and Hall earned a sixth-place finish with their school record time of 1:37.49. The result is tied for the program's best in a relay at PSAC's since 2004, and the time was less than a second back of Edinboro's mark of 1:36.62 in second place.
Zimmerman gave ESU five individual finalists on Day 2. She was the last qualifier for the 400 individual medley 'B' final with a season-best time of 4:45.79 in the preliminaries, and she took 15th place in the evening after finishing the race in 4:46.99.
Sophomore
Tarah Killane joined Lukshides in the 200 free preliminaries. She took nearly five seconds off her previous season-best after registering a time of 2:00.41.
The Warriors have several more potential scorers in the four scheduled individual events on Saturday. Preliminary swims in the 500 free, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 fly will begin at 10 a.m., while finals (including the 800 free relay) get started at 6 p.m.
Note:
Current assistant
Karoline Vavra, Sami Vavra, Lawson and Andrea Tremper held the previous 200 free relay school record with a time of 1:37.70 at the 2012 PSAC Championships.
