EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University's men's and women's programs each earned third place finishes at the 2018 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in February, and the Warrior squads will look for more success at the conference's outdoor meet this week.

The three-day competition, hosted by Slippery Rock, gets underway on Thursday with the start of the multi events and finals in the hammer and the 10,000m. The top eight finishers in each of the 44 contested events earn points towards the final team standings, and ESU has a total of 34 top-eight rankings heading into the meet.

Three Warrior men hold down the top spot in their respective events: senior Christian Castro in the 110m hurdles, senior Ronald D'Eliseo in the 400m hurdles and sophomore Austin Horner in the decathlon.

Castro was named 2018 PSAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 60m hurdles and placing in the top five in the 200m (3rd) and 60m (5th). His top time of 14.44 in the 110m hurdles is 0.09 ahead of the next closest competitor, and he is also seeded third in the 200m.

D'Eliseo makes a long-anticipated return to PSAC's after missing a majority of the last two seasons due to injury. He has a season-best time of 53.09 in the 400m hurdles, 0.22 ahead of the second-seeded runner and less than a half-second off his PR of 52.83 which was established while placing third at the 2015 Outdoor Championships.

Horner's decathlon total of 6,487 points at the Mondschein Multi in April is nearly 500 points ahead of the next highest score by a PSAC competitor this spring. Slippery Rock's Steven Girgash, who is ranked No. 2 at 6,010 points, edged Horner for the heptathlon PSAC title during the indoor season. In addition to the decathlon, Horner is set to compete in the long jump (No. 4 seed) and high jump (t-No. 10 seed) individually.

Other ESU competitors who reached the NCAA Division II provisional standard in their events include junior Aspen Gaita (100m hurdles, long jump), freshman Dominic Walton (discus, shot put) and freshman Gabrielle D'Amore (javelin).

Gaita is the defending PSAC outdoor champion in the 100m hurdles, and she is currently second in the conference this spring with a season-best time of 13.99 that is ranked 21st in the nation overall. Gaita is seeded in the top five in each of the four events she is scheduled to compete in: the 100m hurdles, 200m (3rd), high jump (t-4th) and long jump (4th).

Though she is not competing in the heptathlon this weekend to focus on the individual events, Gaita's ESU record score of 4,991 points in the multi remains ranked sixth overall in Division II. She was named the 2018 PSAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after placing sixth nationally in the pentathlon.

Walton is ranked third in the shot put (53-1 1/2) and fourth in the discus (163-11) after setting ESU freshman records in both events this season. He took sixth place in the shot put at the Indoor Championships.

D'Amore's top javelin toss of 139-4 was also a program freshman record, and it ranks her fifth in the conference heading into PSAC's. She is one of three Warriors who will compete in the event; junior Hannah Marth placed fourth at the Outdoor Championships last spring, and freshman Caitlyn Blake booked her spot at the Lehigh Games last weekend.

Women's Track

Runner-up performances by senior Kaylyn West (800m) and junior Marissa Flim (60m) played a key role in the ESU women claiming third place at the Indoor Championships in February, and both take high seeds into their respective events this weekend.

West has placed fourth in the 3000m steeplechase in each of the past two years, and her season-best time of 11:08.74 is second-quickest in the PSAC this spring. West has scored 14 times in her career at PSAC's (six individual, eight relays), a total which ranks tied for eighth in team history.

Flim is seeded fourth in the 100m and ninth in the 200m after scoring in both the 60m and 200m indoors. Other ESU women set to compete in the sprints are sophomore Tiana Webster (100m, 200m), sophomore Morgan Dey (100m, 200m), sophomore Sarah Klag (400m) and junior Sabrina Phillippe (400m). Webster was sixth in the 100m at last year's Outdoor Championships.

In the distance events, senior Jasmine Amro qualified in both the 5000m and 10,000m, and she is seeded just outside the scoring places (9th) in the 10,000m. Other Warrior women who will take part in the weekend's longest race are sophomores Jenna Vledder and Rachael Davalos. Senior Abigail Kaspszyk, meanwhile, joins West in the steeplechase.

Sophomore Allyson Stitzer will look to score individually for the first time in her collegiate career in the 400m hurdles, as she enters the weekend ranked fifth in the event with a season-best effort of 1:04.90.

Freshman Brittany Carratura was a PSAC qualifier in the 1500m, but she will focus on contributing in the relays this weekend. ESU was second in the 4x800m and third in the 4x100m a year ago.

Women's Field

Five Warriors are entered in the high jump: Gaita, junior Carly Gregas, junior Victoria Matthews, junior Victoria Collins and sophomore Tatiana Williams. Gregas was tied for third in the event indoors, while Matthews has scored four times previously in her career, including a second-place showing at the 2017 indoor meet. Williams is also ESU's lone entrant in the triple jump.

Sophomore Me'Saj Closs is among the Warrior contenders in the throws. Her school record toss of 135-11 in the discus is ranked sixth in the PSAC, and she is ranked seventh in the hammer.

Sophomores Alexis Schuldes, Sam Giangrasso and Barbara Grossov join Closs in the hammer. Schuldes is ranked eighth in that event, and she also qualified in the discus. Grossov is the top Warrior qualifier in the shot put, with Closs competing in that event as well.

Women's Multi

Junior Michayla Weitman enters the heptathlon ranked second out of 15 participants. Her score of 4,421 points at Kutztown's Mondschein Multi is ranked sixth in program history, and she was eighth in the event last spring. The first four events (100m hurdles, HJ, SP, 200m) begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday while the remaining three (LJ, Javelin, 800m) are scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on Friday.

Men's Track

A total of 15 Warriors will compete individually on the track this weekend. ESU's strength in the hurdles extends beyond Castro and D'Eliseo, as sophomore Andrew Schumacher is the No. 4 seed in the 400m hurdles while junior Mike Matrisciano is in the top 10 in both the 110m hurdles (8th) and 400m hurdles (10th).

Junior Pat Monahan and freshman Jordan Duncan-Murphy each qualified in the 100m; Monahan is looking to score outdoors for the first time after registering a pair of top-eight efforts at previous Indoor Championships.

Senior Nathan Wojick, a transfer from Gettysburg, leads ESU in the mid-distance races. He was the Centennial Conference champion in the 800m last spring, and is currently ranked fifth in the PSAC this season. Junior Khai Samuels, the 2017 Indoor Champion in the event, has placed fifth outdoors in each of the past two PSAC meets.

Senior Zack Krieger, freshman Jordan Cruise and sophomore Matt Lloyd are looking to score in the 1500m. Senior Dan Buccino is ranked No. 9 in the 10,000m, where he will be joined by freshman Casey Ellis, junior J.P. Montgomery and sophomore Jeremy Smith.

Freshman Teddy Mostellar booked his PSAC spot in the 3000m steeplechase after competing in the event for the first time at Lehigh last weekend, and with a total of 10 entrants he will have a strong chance at cracking the top eight.

Sophomore Mike Sheptuk qualified in the 1500m individually, but he will participate solely in relay events at PSAC's. The Warrior men have the No. 2 time in the 4x100m this spring after placing third in the event last spring. ESU was also second in the 4x800m and fourth in the 4x400m in 2017.

Men's Field

Sophomore Darnell Randall's PR distance of 23-8 in the long jump at Moravian's Coach P Invitational has him ranked second in the conference heading into PSAC's. He is also tied for sixth with a top clearance of 6-6 3/4 in the high jump. Randall was third in the long jump indoors, and he took seventh place in the long jump at last year's outdoor meet.

Freshman Dan Amari cracked the top eight with a sixth place showing in the pole vault indoors, and he is seeded No. 7 outdoors with a top mark of 14-1 1/4.

ESU has two entrants in the triple jump; freshman Keondre Morris (43-9 3/4) is tied for seventh in the rankings, while fellow freshman DeAndre Scott (43-2 1/4) is 11th. Both are looking to score for the first time collegiately.

Walton is the lone Warrior participant in the throws.

Men's Multi

Freshmen Garth Estadt and Kevin Costabel will join Horner in the decathlon. Estadt is ranked 10th in the competition, and Costabel follows in 11th. The first five events (100m, LJ, SP, HJ, 400m) begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, while the final five (110m hurdles, Discus, PV, Javelin, 1500m) get underway at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.

Live results throughout the meet are available here, and Slippery Rock will produce a live video broadcast (beginning with the 10,000m finals on Thursday night) that can be accessed here.
