Bartholomew, McCarthy, Watson Honored on All-PSAC East Teams

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – With the regular season concluding this past week, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday that East Stroudsburg University football team members placekicker Devin Bartholomew, defensive end Deshawn McCarthy and safety Tyler Watson were all honored on the All-PSAC East teams.

Bartholomew and McCarthy were selected to the All-PSAC East First Team, while Watson was named to the second team all-conference squad. 

All season, Bartholomew ranked as on the of top placekickers in NCAA Division II. He finished his redshirt junior season successful on 17 of his 23 field goal attempts this season, including 11-13 from inside 40 yards and a mark of 6-10 from beyond 40 yards. 

He was a perfect 28-28 this season on PAT attempts, improving his collegiate career mark to 57-57. The Warriors have made every point after touchdown the last three seasons (97-97 PAT), including its previous 99 attempts dating back to the 2018 finale. Bartholomew was previously honored on the All-PSAC East Second Team in 2021. 

Bartholomew ranks second nationally in field goals per game and 36th in the country in points scored this season with 79. His 73.9 field goal percentage ranks 33rd.

The Allentown native becomes the first Warrior kicker to earn All-PSAC honors in consecutive seasons since Taylor Groff in 2011 (second team) and 2012 (first team).

McCarthy, a 2021 AFCA All-America selection, continued his strong Warrior career in 2022. The Philadelphia native recorded 36 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles and four pass deflections this past season. He ranked sixth in the conference in sacks and ninth in tackles for loss and paced the conference in forced fumbles per game. 

Entering 2023, McCarthy has 25 career sacks (5th most at ESU), 38.5 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles (tied for ninth). 

McCarthy is the first Warrior defensive lineman to earn All-PSAC East First Team honors in back-to-back seasons since Bryan Thomson earned first-team all-conference nods in three consecutive seasons in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Watson, A 2021 All-PSAC East First Team selection, closed his impressive Warrior career with 163 tackles, nine interceptions, 24 passes defended, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. This past season, the Bucks County product totaled 57 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and four passes defended. The two-time captain recorded at least three tackles in each game from the safety position, consistently making plays in both the backfield and in coverage. 

Watson becomes the first defensive back to earn all-conference honors in back-to-back seasons since Teron Dobbs earned second team honors in 2014 and 2015.

ESU closed the season with a 4-7 record, falling to California (Pa.) in the season finale last Saturday.
