Standout in two sports. He was the team's leading tackler as a linebacker in football. He was the school's first NCAA track and field All-America. He placed second in the javelin throw at the nationals in 1971 and fourth in 1972. He was the conference and regional javelin champion. He was selected as the Senior Male Athlete of the Year in 1972.
