Frick Captures Championship Award Guys Athlete of the Week

EAST STROUDSBURG – Redshirt sophomore wrestler Thad Frick has been named the Championship Award Guys Athlete of the Week at East Stroudsburg University for his performance on the mat for the Warriors.

Frick (Nazareth/Nazareth) posted a 3-1 record as ESU split four duals in a four-day span. He is 9-3 in dual action at 157 pounds this season, including a 6-1 record since the beginning of January, and has a team-best 19 victories and a 19-9 overall record.

Frick won a 6-5 overtime decision in a 30-12 win at American International on Friday and earned a key 12-4 major decision as the Warriors posted a 22-16 comeback victory at Boston University on Saturday. He also won a 6-3 decision over Braden Turner of Rutgers on Monday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

His 2009-10 season includes a fourth-place finish at the Wilkes Open on December 28, when he won seven straight bouts in the consolation bracket after falling 10-5 to the eventual runner-up, Ramon Santiago of Rider, in the first round. As a redshirt freshman, Frick wrestled into the second day of the Southern Scuffle and EIWA Championships while competing at 165 pounds.

Frick has a 31-18 overall record and a 17-8 mark in duals in his career to date at ESU. He has two falls, two technical falls and four major decisions this season, and five of his eight bonus point wins have come in dual action.

The Warriors (7-6) have seven duals remaining on their schedule before competing at the NCAA Division II East Regional at Pitt-Johnstown on February 26-27. The Division II national championships will be held on March 12-13 at Nebraska-Omaha.
