EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University linebacker Matt Freed has been named a first team preseason Division II All-American by Consensus Draft Services entering his senior season for the Warriors in a release on cdsdraft.com.

Freed (Souderton/Souderton) is a two-time first team Daktronics Division II All-America and third team Associated Press Little All-America selection over the past two seasons. He was also the Super Region One Defensive Player of the Year on the Daktronics squad, which is voted on by the region's sports information directors, and was a first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American.

Freed has posted 258 tackles, 29 tackles for a loss and 14 sacks in the last two years. He had 132 tackles, 18 TFL and 10 sacks in 2009 while leading the Warriors to the fourth appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs in school history, and notched 126 tackles, 11 TFL, four sacks and four interceptions in his inaugural All-America campaign as a redshirt sophomore in 2008.

The PSAC is represented by four players on the cdsdraft.com preseason All-America first team – Freed, C.W. Post defensive end Xavier Brown, Slippery Rock center Brandon Fusco and IUP kicker Craig Burgess.

ESU returns 15 starters for the 2010 season, eight on offense and seven on defense, with Freed leading a group of five linebackers with starting experience. The Warriors' defense ranked in the top 10 in Division II in red zone defense, fourth down defense and takeaways during the regular season.
