EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University's women's volleyball team has been recognized with the AVCA Team Academic Award for the second straight year, it was announced earlier this week.
The Warriors are one of five PSAC schools and 55 Division II institutions to earn the distinction, which requires a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average among the members of the roster. The team had a 3.47 cumulative GPA and also received ESU's women's team academic achievement award at the National Student-Athlete Day celebration in April.
A record total of 450 men's and women's teams at the college and high school levels received the award, including Clarion, ESU, Gannon, IUP and Slippery Rock in the PSAC. The award was first introduced in 1992-93.
The Warriors' 2010 season will begin over Labor Day weekend with a trip to Dallas to play four matches in a tournament at Texas Woman's University. They will travel to Springfield (Mass.) for a tournament the following weekend before opening their home schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 15 vs. Mercy College.
