Gigliotti Claims Daktronics Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year Award

5/19/2011 12:00:00 AM

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University redshirt senior left-hander Jeremy Gigliotti has been named the Daktronics Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year, his second honor as the region's top pitcher in as many days, it was announced Thursday.

Gigliotti (Saylorsburg/Pleasant Valley), the Division II leader in ERA and hits allowed per 9 innings, was recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers (NCBWA) on Wednesday. The Daktronics team is selected by the region's sports information directors.

The Warriors' ace, who was also named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year last week, is the first ESU pitcher to earn first team All-Region honors since Joel Bennett in 1991.

Gigliotti led the Warriors to their second trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament in school history and will take the mound against Seton Hill in the regional opener on Friday at 6 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster.

He enters the tournament with a 0.45 ERA and 3.90 hits allowed per 9 innings, both the top marks in Division II, and is coming off a no-hitter in a 2-0 shutout at Mansfield in his last start on May 9.

In 11 appearances and nine starts this season, Gigliotti has 73 strikeouts, 11 walks and 26 hits allowed in 60.0 innings and has seven complete games and three shutouts. He took a shutout into the seventh inning in two other games and has allowed just three earned runs all season.

He holds ESU's career record with 231 strikeouts, which he set against Shippensburg in his final home start on April 22. He has struck out at least five batters in all nine of his starts, fanned 10 in his no-hitter at Mansfield and had a career-high 12 strikeouts in 7.0 innings in a 12-1 win against Alderson-Broaddus in Florida.

Gigliotti advances to the national ballot for All-America consideration for the Daktronics and NCBWA teams, which should be released in the next two weeks. The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) will announce its All-Region team later this month.
