UPDATE: Saturday's DH is postponed to Monday, April 22. Alumni Day and Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Day will be held on Saturday, May 4 when the Warriors host Millersville.
EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University's baseball program will hold its annual Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Day and Alumni Day on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Warriors host Bloomsburg in the second half of this weekend's PSAC East series.
(
Note: Friday's DH at Bloomsburg has been postponed to Sunday at 1 p.m.)
Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Day goes hand-in-hand with the Warriors' “Striking Out Cystic Fibrosis” campaign, which is raising money for the Allentown chapter of the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The Warriors will also welcome their alumni back to campus with a barbecue and reception tent beyond the centerfield fence. Approximately 30-40 alumni are expected to attend, and any interested ESU alumni are encouraged to come out to Mitterling Field on Saturday.
The ESU baseball program has raised more than $7,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in the last three years, starting with “Dollars for Doubles” and continuing with “Striking Out Cystic Fibrosis”.
Cystic Fibrosis is an incurable, life-threatening genetic disorder that affects more than 30,000 Americans and is prevalent in children. The disease causes mucus to build up and clog an individual's organs, particularly the lungs and pancreas. Build-up makes breathing very difficult and causes bacteria to get stuck in the airways, causing inflammation and infections that lead to lung damage.
Fans can pledge a flat amount, or an amount per strikeout that the Warriors record this season, with 50 percent of the proceeds benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Contact information will be collected through the pledge sheets, and donors will be contacted at the end of the 2013 season.
