EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University senior right-hander Brian Ernst has been named the NCBWA Division II Pitcher of the Week for his three-hitter with 15 strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Millersville last Friday.

Ernst (Allentown/Salisbury) was previously named the PSAC East and NCBWA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week for his performance at Millersville. The victory helped the Warriors reach the PSAC Tournament for the third time in four years.

His 15 strikeouts are an ESU record, the most in the PSAC this season and tied for the second-most in Division II.

Ernst struck out 10+ for the fourth straight game, improving to 3-0 with 48 strikeouts, seven walks, four runs and 14 hits allowed in 27.2 innings in that stretch. He has 69 strikeouts in 46.2 innings this year, ranking fourth at ESU in single-season strikeouts and fifth in career strikeouts (182) in 152.2 innings.

Ernst threw 104 pitches, with 68 for strikes, in his third complete game of the season and the sixth of his career. He struck out at least two batters in each inning, hit one and didn't issue a walk in earning his 15th career win.

He was also one of two Warriors with two hits off Millersville's Tim Mayza, the #6 draft prospect in Division II as rated by Baseball America.

Earlier this season, Ernst became the fourth player in PSAC history with 150 strikeouts and hits in his career. He currently ranks fifth at ESU in career strikeouts (182) and tied for sixth in hits (190) and is in ESU's career top 10 in seven offensive and eight pitching categories.
