1st & 10 ...  Complete Game Notes (PDF)

1 • ESU (6-3, 5-3) hosts No. 18-ranked West Chester (8-1, 7-1) on Senior Day at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The Warriors have won 2 of the last 5 meetings with the Golden Rams, including a 35-28 victory in the last meeting at ESU in 2012. ESU, coming off a 34-13 loss at No. 6 Bloomsburg last week, faces AFCA Top 20 teams in back-to-back weeks for the 2nd time since 2000.

2 • ESU head coach Denny Douds, in his 41st season, has 250 career wins - 1st in PSAC history, 3rd in DII history, 20th in NCAA history and 3rd among active NCAA coaches.
2a • Douds has coached in 427 career games - 1st in PSAC and DII history, 9th in NCAA history and 1st among active NCAA coaches. He has faced West Chester 41 times, posting a 14-27 record.

3 • West Chester (#1) and ESU (#2) were the top two teams in this year's PSAC East preseason poll, but Bloomsburg (#3) has claimed at least a share of the PSAC East regular season title and a spot in the State Game with wins over WCU (41-10) and ESU (34-13) the last 2 weeks. West Chester would share the PSAC East title with a win today and a Bloomsburg loss at Lock Haven (2-7, 2-6).

4 • ESU will finish with a .500+ record for the 12th time in the last 15 years. The Warriors had their first 5-game, single-season winning streak since 2008 from Sept. 20 to Oct. 18 and opened with a 6-1 record before losses to Kutztown and Bloomsburg the last 2 weeks.

5 • ESU will recognize 17 seniors prior to the game, including 9 who have made at least 10 career starts for the Warriors.

6 • ESU R-Jr. QB Matt Soltes - the PSAC leader in passing, total offense and pass efficiency - did not play last week at Bloomsburg due to an injury suffered in the 3rd quarter vs. Kutztown the previous week. R-So. QB Bruce Campbell was the 32nd Warrior to start at QB under Douds last week.

7 • Soltes is the only QB in Division II to rank in the top 6 nationally in total offense (3rd - 381.8 ypg), passing yards (4th - 347.3 ypg) and pass efficiency (6th - 165.5). Among active DII players, he is 1st in career total offense per game (342.3), 3rd in career passing per game (298.1) and 2nd in career pass efficiency (163.7).

THE SERIES: ESU and West Chester have met 78 times with the Golden Rams holding a 56-22 advantage. WCU will tie Bloomsburg today as ESU's most frequent opponent after the Warriors met the Huskies for the 79th time last week. They have met every year since 1946, with the 67 games in that span making it ESU's longest continuous series. They played twice in one season - 2004 - with West Chester winning 38-37 (OT) in the regular season and 48-38 in the NCAA Playoffs. ESU has won 2 of the last 5 meetings - 21-20 at WCU during the 2009 NCAA Playoff season, and 35-28 at Eiler-Martin Stadium in 2012.

5 TAKEAWAYS FROM 34-13 L at BLOOMSBURG
1. ESU's defense limited the Huskies' high-powered offense to 360 yards on 81 plays (4.4 yards per play), but Bloomsburg had a significant field position advantage all day with an average drive start at its 45-yard line.
2. R-Sr. DL Bryan Thomson had 13 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 2.0 sacks and a forced fumble - giving him 59 tackles, 10.0 TFL and 6.5 sacks this season with 7 starts at nose guard and 2 at defensive end. Thomson is also t-1st in DII in blocked kicks (6) and holds ESU's career record (16).
3. R-Sr. S Anthony Singlar is tied for 10th at ESU with 278 career tackles after making 5 stops against the Huskies.
4. R-Jr. WR Jon Schnaars had a TD catch for the 5th straight game - tied for the 2nd-longest streak in ESU history behind All-America WR Evan Prall, who had a TD in all 14 games in 2005.
5. ESU scored 20+ points in 29 straight games before being held to 16 (Kutztown) & 13 (Bloomsburg) the last 2 weeks.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR vs. WEST CHESTER
1. West Chester is the defending NCAA DII Super Region 1 champion, going 13-2 in 2013 and following up with an 8-1 record this year for a 2-year total of 21-3 entering this weekend's game.

PSAC CHANGES: PSAC crossover games vs. Slippery Rock (Sept. 13) and Edinboro (Sept. 20) counted towards the PSAC's divisional standings for the first time in 2014, creating a 9-game PSAC schedule. TRENDING UP: ESU notched a 7-4 record in 2013, building on a 5-5 campaign in 2012 after consecutive 3-8 seasons in 2010 and 2011. Since 2000, the Warriors are 101-62 (.620) with a .500+ record in 12 of 15 seasons.
