Roth Named NFHCA DII Atlantic Region Player of the Year

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University senior forward Ally Roth has been named the NFHCA Division II Atlantic Region Player of the Year by the region's coaches, it was announced Tuesday.

Roth (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) had 21 goals and two assists as a senior, leading the Warriors to their first PSAC and DII championships in program history.

Roth ranked fourth in DII in goals per game (0.95) and sixth in points per game (2.0) this year and scored in both games in the NCAA Tournament. She had ESU's third goal in a 6-2 win vs. West Chester in the semifinals, and drew a penalty stroke and converted 4:48 into overtime for the game's only goal in ESU's 1-0 (OT) win vs. Merrimack in the national championship game.

She finished her career with school records in goals (74) and points (172), and ranks 12th in goals and 13th in points in DII history.

On Monday, Roth was named to the NFHCA All-America first team for the third time, becoming the second three-time All-America first team selection in program history, joining link Stacie Fritz (1995-97).

Roth and Stonehill forward Erika Kelly, the East Region Player of the Year, are candidates for the NFHCA DII National Player of the Year which will be released on Wednesday. Kelly led Stonehill to the Northeast-10 Conference championship, leading DII in scoring with 65 points on 27 goals and 11 assists.

Roth helped the Warriors to a share of their second-ever PSAC regular season title, finishing the regular season with a 15-3 overall record and 9-1 mark in the PSAC. ESU won all four postseason games - 3-1 vs. West Chester in the PSAC semifinals, 1-0 vs. Millersville in the PSAC final and the NCAA Tournament wins vs. West Chester and Merrimack - to set a school record with 19 victories.

Roth had 21 goals and five assists as a sophomore in 2013 and 22 goals and nine assists as a junior in 2014 to earn her first two All-America honors. She had 10 goals and eight assists as a freshman in 2012.

She was named first team All-PSAC in each of her final three seasons and was the 2014 PSAC Offensive Athlete of the Year.

Roth was one of four Warriors to earn All-America honors on Monday. Junior midfielder Desiraye Mack and junior back Emily Howell joined Roth on the first team as selected by the NFHCA and Synapse Sports, and senior midfielder Rebecca Snyder was recognized on the second team by Synapse Sports. Head coach Sandy Miller was named the Synapse Sports DII Coach of the Year.
