Justin Germani was named the head coach of the men's track and field program on May 24, 2021 and is entering his ninth season overall on the ESU staff in 2024-25.
ESU put together an excellent campaign under Germani during the 2023-24 season as the Warriors captured third place finishes at the PSAC Indoor & Outdoor Championships for the third consecutive year, which included scoring the second-most points in school history at the outdoor meet with 139.5. The Warriors combined for seven titles overall at the conference championships with Cole Gorham (Shot Put), Tyler Boone (400m) and the 4x400m relay team winning their respective events indoors, while Miguel Charlery (200m), Aaron Sanchez (High Jump), the 4x400m relay squad and Gorham (Discus) took home crowns during the outdoor meet.
Additionally, Gorham became the 21st two-time All-American in program history after earning All-America First Team honors in the discus as well as All-America Second Team honors in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor & Outdoor Championships. Gorham, who shattered the indoor shot put record, broke the all-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record in the discus on April 19 at ESU's All-American Meet with a milestone mark of 57.55m (188-9), while Charlery eclipsed a pair of program times on the track (60m, 200m - outdoor).
During the 2022-23 season, the men's track & field team recorded a pair of third place finishes at the indoor and outdoor PSAC Championships and captured a trio of individual titles which included Donavan Anderson in the triple jump (indoor/outdoor) and Kobe Jenkins in the 110m hurdles.
Anderson made an immediate impact in his first season for the Warriors as the freshman became the eighth three-time All-American in program history. At the NCAA Indoor Championships, Anderson earned a pair of Second Team All-America honors after placing ninth in the triple jump and 12th in the long jump. He returned for the Outdoor Championships, taking eighth in the long jump to garner All-America First Team recognition. Anderson was tabbed as the PSAC Men's Indoor Freshman of the Year and set both the program records for the long jump (indoor/outdoor).
In his first full season as the head coach, the men's track & field team earned third place finishes at both the indoor and outdoor PSAC Championships. Eric Garner represented the Warriors on the national stage, qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships where he earned a 14th place finish in the javelin. Freshman Cole Gorham made an immediate impact by smashing a a 42-year-old program record in the discus (170-1) at the All-American Meet.
Germani served as the interim head coach for the ESU men's and women's cross country and men's track & field programs in the 2020-21 season. Under the direction of Germani, the cross country teams combined for five All-PSAC finishers and Casey Ellis was the runner-up for the men's team at the championships. On the track, the men finished as the runner-up and had four individual champions at the PSAC Championships while the women's team broke a pair program records that were 25 years old and 42 years old.
Germani has been with ESU as an assistant coach since 2016 and has helped lead the men's track & field team to top-three finishes at the PSAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships in each season since his arrival. The Warriors placed runner-up at the 2019 and 2020 Indoor Championships, which matched the program's best-ever finish at the meet. Germani also helped guide the women's team to a third-place finish at the 2018 Indoor Championships, marking the team's best placing since 2014.
Under Germani's direction, the Warriors have had 17 individuals and two relay teams capture PSAC titles. He's also coached the ESU record holder in the women's long jump both indoor and outdoor (Aspen Gaita), as well as the school record holder in the men's heptathlon (Austin Horner).
Germani, a 2011 Kutztown University graduate, was a two-time NCAA Division II national qualifier, and earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
After graduating from Kutztown, Germani began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Alvernia University in Reading, Pennsylvania. During his two seasons with the Golden Wolves, he coached a four-time NCAA qualifier and All-American in the pole vault, as well as four Middle Atlantic Conference Champions. His pole vaulters set school records on both the men's and women's sides.
Germani moved on to Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts as an assistant coach from 2013-16. In three seasons at Williams, he worked with four NCAA Division III qualifiers, including two All-Americans and two NESCAC Champions. His vertical jumpers helped Williams capture a pair of conference championships and three top-10 NCAA team finishes.
Germani has extensive experience as a camp clinician, working at East Stroudsburg, Princeton, Williams, Shippensburg, West Chester and Kutztown. He also has a USTFCCCA jumping event specialist certification and a strength and conditioning specialist certification.
Germani earned a bachelor's degree in sport management from Kutztown in 2011, and went on to earn a master's in sport management from California (Pa.) in 2013.
