Melissa Grigsby finished her second season as the assistant women's basketball coach at East Stroudsburg University in 2011-12 and served as the graduate assistant coach during the 2009-10 season.
Grigsby was named the Warriors' assistant under first-year head coach Maureen Smith in 2010-11 after assisting acting head coach Justin Potts and assistant coach Justin Scott the previous season.
Grigsby helped the Warriors improve from five wins in the 2010-11 season to 11 wins last year, when they finished fifth in the eight-team PSAC East. Forward Jessica Martin was the PSAC East Freshman of the Year and set a conference freshman record for blocked shots, and Martin and senior guard Cyara Woodridge were named to the All-PSAC East second team.
A 2009 graduate of Swarthmore College with a bachelor of Arts in Biology, Grigsby was a four-year member of the basketball and lacrosse teams and was captain of both programs. She was an All-Centennial Conference honorable mention selection in basketball as a senior and holds a spot in the Garnet’s all-time top 10 for both single season and career assists. In lacrosse, she was a three-time all-conference selection, a member of the All-Region team as a sophomore, and led the conference in ground balls and caused turnovers per game as a senior.
Grigsby was also significantly involved in community service projects during her time at Swarthmore. She participated in trips to Uriman, Venezuela and New Orleans, Louisiana, served as the co-chair of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and was involved in Swarthmore’s TOPSoccer program to mentor mentally disabled children through soccer. She also studied abroad during the fall 2007 semester in Kolkata, India and taught English through the International Partnership for Service Learning and Leadership.
Grigsby is a 2005 graduate of West Chester East High School in West Chester, Pa., where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the Spellman Humanitarian Award.
