ESU Women's Soccer Continues to Roll with 4-0 Win over Shippensburg

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University continued its recent offensive explosion with three second-half goals in a 4-0 win over Shippensburg in PSAC East women's soccer action on Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Warriors (9-4-1, 6-2-1) won their fourth straight game and are 7-1-1 in their last nine outings, with the only loss coming 2-1 in overtime at PSAC East-leading West Chester on Sept. 17.

ESU has outscored its opponents 17-1 in the last four games, and has nine second-half goals in the last three matches.

Junior Janel Cleffi put ESU on the board 11 minutes into the match on an assist from sophomore Justine Gostomski, and the score remained 1-0 until Cleffi assisted on the sixth goal of the season by junior Tara Takac 1:47 into the second half.

Junior Dena Shleifer, who had a hat trick in ESU's 6-1 win at Kutztown on Wednesday, scored in the 67th minute off an assist from junior Lynda Hicks, and Hicks added her team-leading 10th goal of the year nine minutes later to complete the scoring.

Junior goalkeeper Janine Turcio had her second shutout of the season for the Warriors and made four saves. Beth Long was the starter for Shippensburg and made seven saves, while Jennifer Bledsoe played the final 13 minutes for the Lady Raiders.

ESU hosts Millersville in a PSAC East match-up on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
