PHILADELPHIA - East Stroudsburg University won a pair of women's volleyball matches on Tuesday night in Philadelphia, beating Cheyney 3-0 before outlasting Philadelphia University in five games in the nightcap.
The Warriors began the day at 4 p.m. at Cheyney and made quick work of the Wolves, winning 30-6, 30-7 and 30-8. Freshman Diana Gibson highlighted the match by winning 29 total points on serve for ESU. Gibson and freshman Alyson Stark both had seven aces, and every ESU player who served recorded at least one ace in the match.
Freshman setter Tatiana Lattimore had 20 assists. Junior Linsey Sewalk had a team-high nine kills and Gibson added seven kills for the Warriors, who hit .339 as a team.
At Philadelphia University, junior Amilee Schillinger had a career-high 18 kills on 54 attacks and also added 12 digs. Junior Caitlin Kuhn and freshman Kayla Mahaffay also contributed 13 kills each, and senior Liz Johnson had 52 assists.
Junior Alyson Procopio and freshman Emily Detter both set career-highs with 36 and 16 digs, respectively.
ESU won the first two games 30-24, 30-21 before Philadelphia came back to take the next two games, 30-17, 30-23. The Warriors finally secured their 10th victory of the season with a 15-13 win in the fifth game.
The Warriors will return to PSAC East action next Tuesday with a match at Millersville.
