MANSFIELD - Junior Lynda Hicks recorded her first career hat trick to lead the East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team to a 5-0 win at Mansfield on Thursday afternoon.
The Warriors started quickly in their first match since a 1-1 tie at Bloomsburg last Wednesday, scoring four first-half goals to put the game out of reach early. Freshman Kailyn Buckley scored 12 minutes in on an assist from junior Dena Shleifer, and junior Jennifer Buckley netted her first goal of the season six minutes later to put the Warriors ahead 2-0.
Hicks took over from there, scoring her first two goals exactly five minutes apart (34:29, 39:29) on assists from senior Kaitlin Anders and junior Kerry Ruland. She completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal 25 minutes into the second half and leads the Warriors with seven goals on the season.
Junior Janine Turcio and senior Samantha Marina combined on the shutout for ESU, the team's third of the year.
ESU improves to 4-2-1 in the PSAC East and 6-4-1 overall heading into Saturday's non-conference match at California. The Warriors will return to PSAC East play next Wednesday at Kutztown.
