USP Upends ESU Women's Basketball 73-70

BLOOMSBURG - The University of the Sciences overcame an eight-point deficit in the final four minutes to post a come-from-behind 73-70 win over East Stroudsburg University in the Warriors' season opener on Friday night at Bloomsburg.

ESU led 66-58 with 4:12 remaining before USP came back and eventually tied the game at 70 on a layup by Allison Weiss with 1:00 left. Erin Chesnavich gave USP the lead with less than 30 seconds remaining and made one free throw after an ESU turnover to push the lead to 73-70.

Junior guard Jackie Yandrisevits and freshman guard Kristen Murray both missed three-pointers in the final 10 seconds that would have sent the game into overtime.

Murray scored 19 points in her first career game, redshirt freshman forward Karla Cardona had 16 and Yandrisevits had 14 points for ESU.

Chesnavich led USP with 19 points, while Colleen Christian had 12, including a critical three-pointer in the final two minutes.

The Warriors will take on Caldwell on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the second day of the classic format at Bloomsburg.
