WEST CHESTER - West Chester scored a goal in the first three minutes of both halves en route to a 3-0 win over East Stroudsburg University in the PSAC women's soccer semifinals on Friday afternoon at South Campus Field.
The Warriors end their season with a 12-7-1 record, their first 12-win season since going 13-5-2 in 1998. ESU also won a PSAC tournament game for the first since 1998 with a 1-0 win over Bloomsburg in the quarterfinals.
Christine Thurwanger scored 32 seconds into the match on an assist from Danielle Gerz to give West Chester a quick 1-0 lead, and the Golden Rams extended their advantage to 2-0 2:24 into the second half on a goal by Jessica Bennett.
Sarah Oswald scored her 16th goal of the season with 3:56 remaining to finish the scoring.
West Chester held an 11-10 advantage in shots and Brittany Barnes made five saves in goal. Junior Janine Turcio had three saves for ESU.
The game was the final contest for ESU senior backs Kaitlin Anders and Brittany Staub. Staub is a three-time All-PSAC East first team selection and is in line for conference and regional honors when the teams are announced next week.
West Chester, the defending PSAC champions, advance to the PSAC title game on Sunday against the winner of the other semifinal game between Slippery Rock and Edinboro.
