SHIPPENSBURG - Lauren Beckley scored 30 points and three other players were in double figures to lead Shippensburg to a 76-65 win over East Stroudsburg University on Sunday afternoon.
Beckley, last year's PSAC West Rookie of the Year and the leading scorer in the conference (19.6 ppg), was 12-of-21 from the field, including three three-pointers, and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Michelle Metz (15), Kasey Gardner (14) and Megan Fogle (10) also hit double figures for Shippensburg (4-1), which used just seven players and got all of its scoring from its starters.
Freshman guard Kristen Murray had 18 points for ESU (1-4), with 12 coming in the second half. The game was tied 25-25 at intermission, but the Lady Raiders outscored ESU 51-40 after the break.
The Warriors led 25-18 with two minutes left in the first half after a three-point play by Murray, but Shippensburg caught up and tied the score at 25-all on a jumper by Beckley in the closing seconds.
Gardner scored all 14 of her points after halftime for Shippensburg, which used a 17-7 run midway through the half to extend its lead to double digits for the first time in the game with 8:08 remaining.
Murray hit a three to pull ESU within six (65-59) with 6:31 on the clock, but that was as close as the Warriors would get.
Shippensburg was 9-of-14 from the three-point line in the game, while ESU was just 2-for-14 from long distance. The Warriors made all 13 of their free throw attempts and are shooting 78.4 percent from the line this season.
ESU will welcome Shippensburg, Seton Hill and Dowling to Koehler Fieldhouse for the 43rd Annual ESU Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors will play Seton Hill on Friday and Dowling on Saturday, with both games starting at 6 p.m.
