Stonehill Edges Warriors 4-3 in Field Hockey Opener

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior Aly Boulis scored three goals to lead Stonehill College to a 4-3 win over East Stroudsburg University in the non-conference field hockey opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

Both teams were ranked in the top 10 in the nation, with Stonehill at No. 6 and ESU at No. 7.

Junior Jackie Domzalski opened the scoring for ESU six minutes into the match, converting on an assist from senior Sarah Cordora. Cordora led Division II with 14 assists a year ago.

Stonehill came back with an unassisted goal by Claire Hourihan. Senior Rachael Hasselhan gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead off a pass from classmate Domineque Scott with 10 minutes to go in the first half, but Boulis scored the first of her three goals with 1:26 remaining before halftime to tie the game at 2-2.

Boulis gave Stonehill its first lead of the game just over 10 minutes into the second half. Freshman Monica Gombita leveled the score at 3-3 with her first collegiate goal with 8:51 remaining, with the assist coming from senior Karleigh Bowen, before Boulis completed her hat trick with 5:48 to play.

Dani Ryder made five saves for Stonehill, while junior Carolyn Kisling made her first career start for ESU and made eight saves.

The Warriors will travel to Philadelphia University on Thursday for a 4 p.m. game, then return home for three straight home contests beginning on Saturday, Sept. 1 with a 1 p.m. start against Merrimack.
