CALIFORNIA - Brooque Williams and Kayla Smith scored 34 of California's 60 second-half points as the Vulcans pulled away from East Stroudsburg University for an 84-50 victory on Saturday afternoon at Hamer Hall.

Cal (12-2) opened up a 20-3 lead in the first nine minutes before both teams went more than five minutes without scoring. Junior guard Jackie Yandrisevits broke the stretch with two free throws with 5:22 left in the half, which was the start of an 18-4 run that allowed the Warriors to pull within 24-21 at halftime.

ESU continued to battle back in the second half, as sophomore guards Deanna Rayam and Mel Villano, who played together at Freedom High School, combined to make five three-pointers in the first 10 minutes of the half. Rayam's fourth three of the game made the score 50-42 with 10:47 left after Cal had extended its lead to 12 points.

The lead was still 12 points with six minutes to play before Cal put the game away with the next eight points, and closed with a 34-6 run.

The Vulcans forced 21 turnovers, had 13 steals and shot 60 percent (27-45) from the floor to outscore ESU 60-29 in the second half. Cal entered the game as the Division II leader in steals with almost 19 per game and leads the PSAC in scoring with 80 points per game this season.

Williams scored 22 points and Smith had 21 to lead five Cal players in double figures.

Rayam and Villano both scored 14 points for ESU, with Villano matching her career-high. Rayam was 4-of-6 from three-point range.
