Carr, Williams Lead ESU Wrestling to 26-14 Win vs. Franklin & Marshall

EAST STROUDSBURG - Seniors Sean Carr (141) and Dave Williams (197) both won by fall in the first period to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 26-14 victory over Franklin & Marshall on Sunday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors also received bonus points with major decisions by Matt Swallow at 133 and Tom Pagano at 184.

Jake Bucha opened the match for Franklin & Marshall with a 17-4 major decision against Matthew Benedetti at 125 pounds. ESU got the bonus point back at 133 when Swallow used his advantage in riding time for an 8-0 major decision over Stephen Sabreen.

Carr gave the Warriors the lead for good with a quick pin of Aki Aida, as he opened with a takedown in the first 10 seconds and got the fall 33 seconds into the match.

The Diplomats also earned a major decision at 149, where Al Gianforti won 17-7 over Jesse Dunn, to cut the ESU lead to 10-8.

The Warriors won the next two bouts by decision, starting with Kyle Heselpoth by an 11-5 score over Anthony Bongarzone at 157. At 165, Joe Schick and Austin Reed both had escapes, and Schick held the riding time advantage for a 2-1 win.

F&M's Justin Herbert, ranked No. 18 at 174 pounds by Intermat, took an 8-4 decision over Shane Mallory.

The Warriors responded with two more wins, both by bonus points, to put the match away. Tom Pagano wrestled up a weight class at 184 and earned an 18-4 major decision over Matthew Gittleman. Williams returned to the ESU lineup and pinned Bryan Barnes with seven seconds left in the first period to make the score 26-11.

In the final bout of the day, Nico Somers earned a 3-2 decision over ESU's Chris Birchler, who falls to 18-6 on the season.

ESU will return to the mat on Tuesday when it hosts Millersville at 7 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
