Box Score
MANSFIELD - East Stroudsburg University cut an 11-point deficit to two with seven seconds left, but Mansfield held on for a 62-59 win in PSAC East women's basketball on Wednesday night.
The Mounties (6-13, 1-3) led for the final 32 minutes, with the exception of one possession early in the second half, but the Warriors didn't go quietly after Mansfield used a 9-0 run to go ahead 53-42.
ESU (8-10, 2-2) still trailed by 11 with 4:48 to play before going on a 10-2 run to pull within three on a steal and layup by junior guard Jackie Yandrisevits with 1:12 remaining.
Jeannette Meachem (14 points, 10 rebounds) had an offensive rebound and putback to put Mansfield ahead 61-56. Yandrisevits was one-of-two at the line to cut the deficit to four, and Monika Fogelsanger came up with a steal that DeAnna Rayam turned into a layup to make the score 61-59.
Meachem split a pair of free throws with three seconds to go, and Yandrisevits' game-tying three-point attempt was no good to send ESU to its second straight loss in the PSAC East.
ESU put three players in double figures, with Yandrisevits and Fogelsanger scoring 11 points each and Mel Villano adding 10. Fogelsanger led the Warriors with eight rebounds and was 5-of-7 from the field.
Clarissa Correll and Alicia Espigh both scored 16 points for Mansfield.
ESU will travel to Millersville for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
